I know I know I know there are a thousand Shellac threads now, but I haven't found my answers in them so far...

I ordered my Shellac kit yesterday (minus Fedora, sob, out of stock) and there are a few niggle q's I have before I get going, I know my clients and what they'll ask for!

If i'm doing a french (and I know there is a mega long Shellac french thread on here, sorry!) And they don't want a coloured base, what procedure would I use please? So it gives the look of french mani and clear nail beds?

Same again as the french question, nearly, Is there a procedure to do coloured tips, say Fedora french mani and clear nail beds?

Last one, I promise, Some of my ladies like a a design on their ring finger, or sometimes all fingers, is Shellac suitable for use with nailart? I love it just as it is, but some ladies just like what they like! Is it just trial and error? If its suitable, again, what procedure would I do?

Many thanks, and I hope the answers I get help other geeks too x x

I would imagine that if you replace the word Shellac with the word varnish then what would your answers be?

If it was me I would do the Shellac base, cure. Then paint the white, cure. Then I would do two layers of top coat curing each one in between.

Same procedure for using any other colour on the tips.

Doh! Looking at it that way it makes sense, but its so new, and a real revolution in natural nails I needed to check! I thought that that would be the way to do those two, but wouldn't have been sure to do one coat of gloss or two. What do you think about th nail art? Thanks hun x x

the nail art can be done as long as each colour is cured for 2 minutes each. Wee Fee had nailart in shellac on her nails and thats what she advised.

hth's

My only question is how do you know what all your NEW clients are going to ask for?? They will make a choice from the colours you have.

Shellac will drive NEW clients to your door ... my clients are pretty happy now with what they have and I will be offering Shellac to manicure clients who don't now have a separate nail service. I want NEW clients not just the old ones .. I want NEW business and that is what Shellac is giving me and what it will give you if you market it correctly.

Here are some ideas from an article I posted today: http://www.salongeek.com/general-articles/112879-defining-shellac-u-v-colour-coat-system.html

I thought I read on another thread by not putting color first and just base cure then white cure you would over cure the 10 second base coat ?

If I wanted to add some easy nail art to a Shellac manicure ... such as stipper pen and the odd gem, would I do the two coats of colour plus cure.. then wipe with D-Sperse before adding the nail art, then add the Shellac top coat and then cure?

Or would I compelte all the Shellac, then add any nail art, then some super shiney to finish?

I think you do the base coat cure, colour cure, add your nail art or gem, then top coat and cure. You only use Dsperse after the top coat and you're good to go. Hope tis helps? This is just my way may be not necessarily the right way though.

This is how I'm going to do it trial and error I think :o

that would depend on what you did the art with. if you were doing it with another colour of shellac it would work but if you were doing it with acrylic paint or say some ordinary polish it wont because it wont be able to adhere to the sticky layer on the colour coat.

Not sure with Shellac, but I do a lot of acrylic paints artsy stuff on the sticky layer of Brisa, and it adheres fine. I have used both aibrush paints, and quality acrylic paints, and otherwise that you have to get used to draw in the wet layer, I can see no difference to it ;)

To add, this is for art that doesn't cover the whole nail, you know a few swirls , flicks or likewise..

I tried 2d art already, and it turned out fine.
I tried embedding glitter, but that didn't turn out too well. It was a bit bumpy, and hard to smooth out since it's not a gel.

I don't mind though. I didn't plan on using this for art anyways. This is strictly for the on-the-go clients who can't be bothered with drying time! If I do art, I'll have to make them wait a little before I could add the top coat. It'd defeat the purpose.

I'll continue recommending Bio for the clients who want glitter and nail art.

well i have to say i am very surprised. but with your experience i trust your judgement.

I'll give it a go hey! I already have two new client bookings for Shellac for next week and it hasn't even arrived yet, all from my facebook page. I'll be pushing it without art anyway, as I like it just as it is! x x
