I have done my Shellac training with CND and was told to shine up the nail with the glossing buffer before applying Shellac. Does anyone do this? as I have seen the clips on how to do Shellac and read up on it to refresh my sad memory but have never seen anything about doing this.
Another question is when I was trained there was no lit given to me to take away and can not remember if I use glossing buffer first then use scrubfresh or is it the other way around?

I've never heard of using a glossing buffer on the nail before Shellac application. Where did you train?

As far as I know there is no buffing/glossing or anything requiered of the natral nail other than some cuticle love and scrub fresh ,
seems strange ,did you definitly do the training with a CND educator? maybe its a new thing but If it is its not needed IMO as I dont do it and have no prob. X

There is nothing new and no, CND do not teach to do this to the natural nail .... perhaps the trainer was taliking about befoe applying Shellac to enhancements? Mind you I wouldn't do it to enhancments either! But then I do not apply shellac to enhancements. No need.

Maybe the nail was peeling a bit and so this was buffed out? In which case you would scrubfresh after. You would only need to buff the affected nails though, not all.

I done my training for Minx and Shellac on the same day with Liza at bodylines in Kent, as she was my closest trainer and I done this through Sweet Squared, they told me she was one of there head trainers.
I done a one-to one with her and for the Shellac she used my own nails to do the demo, and she had told me and done this on my nails to gloss natural nail she said it makes Shellac guild on better.
I'm now a little confussed at this as no one else has been told this.
Think I will try and call her tomorrow. By the way I have done training with CND at Kent and London and both where great.

It was not to buff the nail. It was only to use the white side of the glossing board or block to create shine on the natural nail.
No it was not said this was done before applying over enhancements.
Odd one

Look this is Liza's adaptation and not a CND teaching. Shellac glides on just beautifully whether or not you do this. Obviously for some it will make their nails smoother but then the Shellac base coat smooths out any ridges etc so no need really and we try not to touch the natural nail when doing Shellac. No need.

I dunno if a glossing block would be up to the job of a peeling nail ,

one thing I love about shellac and probably one of its main selling points is that you don't have to do much in the way on the natural nail ,

I'm not saying that a glossing block will cause harm at all, it wouldnt but it doesn't seem necessary ,
I think shellac has a grate consistency and glides on really nicely with out buffing first,
and it dose have a slight ridge filling property to it to so Ive used it on lumpy bumpy nails with out any gliding issues .

I am tempted to get out my shellac now and see what the difference is with a glossier ....

Thanks guys I will now stop doing this as I also can't see any difference when the nail is shinned or not, but just wanted your imput as I seem to do everything I'm taught. This will also save me some time as i'm new to this I'm very slow in everything I do at mo. I also assumed this was the CND way, unless your told otherwise how would you know!
Great help thanks all.

I trained with Liza in Bodylines back in May and she never taught me that way.

Ok here's what I'm thinking. When I was shown the prep for Minx is was slightly different to the prep for Shellac. For Minx I was shown to gloss over the nail ever so slightly. Nothing like that for Shellac.

If she used your nails as a demo is it possible she prepped all 10 nails for Minx instead of half and half?

Or possibly your memory might be playing tricks on you and you are remembering her prepping your nails for Minx but forgetting how she pep'd for Shellac?

Have you seen these?? If not, take a look. These videos show you THE way which is no fussing and no buffing.

Login - CND

Iif you are not registered On the CND site, then click the youtube icon at the bottom of the CND login page. But it is easy to register. Here's how ...

IF You need to register on the site. Just fill in your details and when it asks for your technicians license number, just skip that and fill in your address details. When it sees that you live abroad, it will let you register without the number.

Using Shellac really is as easy as it looks. No mystery. No nail buffing. No removal of dispersion layer to get the product to stick and stay in one place. But do note how beautifully parallel the brush is kept on the nail when polishing ... this is one of the secrets along with a light touch to a perfect Shellac colour coat application. Also note the TINY amount of product on the brush by the time 'capping' is done ... no thick edges.

Yes maybe my mind has gone blank with taking in everything. However I used a model for the Minx. Shellac was done on me she only done two of my nails. But hey this is all clear to me now as I will stop glossing up the nail as it will also save me time.
Thanks all so much for your help.
