Hope someone can clear this up for me. I had a meeting with a rep from great lengths as we are wanting to start offering extensions. I am not a hairdresser I am a beauty therapist but my salon does hair and beauty.
After the meeting with the rep I am throughly confused. From what I can gather Great Lengths do not use glue in extensions. They use flat bonds mainly. They told me that glue in extensions have had a lot of bad publicity and are soon to be banned!!
Now I am not daft I know they would tell me glue in is not good if they don't offer it. However it worries me about them saying they will be banned.
I am also looking into Cinderella and Balmain who I know use bonded. My concern is I don't want to invest in a glue in system if they are going to get banned.
I'm hoping someone will tell me this is a load of rubbish.
xx

It's a load of rubbish. It's a rep trying to do a sales job on you.

My hubby was saying something similar the other day! He'd apparently heard it on the radio xx

There was an article in a national newspaper last week, it had terrible photos of Brittney, Naomi campbell and other celebs with bald patches..they were saying some people were calling for them to be banned, others were saying more thorough training was the answer..and that a 1 day course wasn't enough..and that being a hair extension technician should be a specialised job.

Totally agree that it should only be done by skilled hairdressers who have had proper training.
When office workers are doing one day courses and doing extensions on the side, they are gonna have disasters.
Banning hair extensions would be like banning nail extensions, it isn't gonna happen. Would the police be checking peoples hair for "illegal" hair ext?

It was on radio one the trichology society or something were calling on a ban. There was some girl on it saying she had gone bald from them- but hey presto she had only paid £150 for a full set. So to me, at that price, it's a total cowboy job.

I say only qualified hairdressers with specific hair extensions qualifications are able to do them. But we've been saying that for months...

Yes there has been a lot of press about it lately, though where it is going to go who knows. As the others have said I can't imagine how it would be enforced, checking peoples hair for extensions! The problem is untrained therapists offering the extensions and them being fitted badly.

On a brighter note I love great lengths and could vouch for them all day long! We offer them at the salon and they really are the best I've tried. You are right in thinking the hair is prebonded so you won't use glue yourself, there is also no infill maintenance which our clients seem to prefer, as there is with other systems such as racoon etc. Great lengths are more expensive initially but that cost is outweighed by not having to return for topups. That's not to say racoon is not a fantastic product! I do love racoon hair and it is a very close second in my opinion, though I know others prefer it. I would not hesitate in recommending raccoon at all. If choosing a brand I would say those are the top 2 to go with xx

Haha! Loving the thought of Hair Police checking all the skanky extensions! Lol x

I totally agree.. Racoon are fab although the training was expensive. I've heard fab reviews in great lengths too but just being in a small village I only offer Racoon. I do get sick of people saying,"such+such is doing extensions for £100" what I tell them is,"the proof is in the pudding!" cowboy extensioninsts should be banned!!!

Yeah this is not true!!! The issue is glued hair extensions being put in by non qualified hair extensionist who are not certified and insured. So it is not about banning them all together but rather putting regulations on unqualified people who learned from youtube and then offer their service and never had any training.
