My daughter had hair extensions put in by her friends mum,who is a hairdresser. They were for her prom so she wasn't going to keep them in long.
Thing is they are on a strip and glued in with a white latex glue in 3 layers, and everytime they come loose my daughter is glueing them back in herself because she wants to keep them as long as possible.I keep telling her she is going to ruin her own hair. What i am asking is ,will she?.I know nothing about them so is the glue damaging.
Thanks for any help at least if you tell her she'll end up bald she may listen:)

not a hairdresser but i have two big bald patchs on my scalp where i've pulled them out! tell her when she removes them to use plenty of conditioner on the glue n gentley comb it out!! n then tell her to get clip in ones (sooo much easier n NO bald patches or damage to your hair!!) after trying the clip ins i would never EVER go back to glue (plus..it stinks!!) hth!! xxx

Yes... Glued in tracks are only for temp. if she wanted a more perm. she wants them sewed in. When a hairdresser glues in a track we do not glue it to the hair but rather the scalp (the part line) and if we do attach to the hair when we remove the track we use either a glue remover or a oil so it slides out. She is very likley to end up with chunks of hair being pulled out, broken, ripped etc... When she takes them out have her use a olive oil, baby oil (this is a mineral oil base and has been known to break down the adheasive better. They may already start slipping more and more doe to the natural oil on the scalp.

Good luck just tell her its better if u cant see it dont do it she has no idea how much is is putting on and chances are more than she wants and its probally gatherin gup in her hair.

I used to wear this method many moons again and I could normally do a a full head removal in 30mins with no residue left over.

I used the Proclaim shampoo remover and worked it the areas of the weft/adhesive. After a couple of shampoos the wefts would loosen pretty easily. I would rinse off the shampoo and then put plenty of conditioner all over my head and work it between the wefted/ahesive areas. The conditioner works a treat and the tapes cape out no problem.

I would then go through my hair while still in the shower with a small tooth comb and put more conditoner on and work the comb through the hair. The conditoner makes the comb slide through the hair so its a lot easier.

Once all he residue is removed I would just rinse and then style as normal.

Inform your daughter about proflex tape they are a lot kinder to the hair and work a treat and are so much easier to remove than the latex adesive method. If you want to know more then let me know.

I am going to slightly disagree with this. There are lots of systems available and what she needs is a consultation first of all from a person, who is specialised with extensions. Her scalp might be too weak to have weawing and the weight of the hair that has been sewed on might pull her own hair out as well. Usually sewing in extensions are for afro hair, because that is strong enough to carry the extra weight. I know Balmain does extensions that are not glued, but they are bonded with a keratin bond and the hair is fully re-usable So If she wants to keep the hair , she can use it again, the hairdresser just need to replace the bond. They do removals as well and they will be able to remove the full head quite quickly, the best advise would be to have the extensions removed professionally by trained person.

Just an update and a word of warning.Listen to the people in the know any one thinking of doing what my daughter did.
I really had to bite my lip but couldn't resist an ''i told you so''.Her hair is looking very sad . It was very fine, and highlighted and she was straightening it a lot more with the extensions in and a lot has broken off.Its definately looking very dry and a lot shorter.
The glue was also a nightmare to get out ,but then she did have a lot in it.
Oh well lesson learned.
She has an appointment at hairdressers next week to get it all sorted out.
Oh and shes bought some clips.
