hi there,
i have a new salon. wanting to take a woman on for 2days a week, just not sure what to pay her..she will be bringing some clientel with her but will also be doing quite a few new clients..will prob do £300-£500 week......just dont know what the:rolleyes: going rate is or is it best self employed....and when paying commision do i pay it on the whole 100% of takings, or is it commision on whats left after taken 2x her wage. I wouldnt say she is an amizing stylist therfore justifying a high rate of pay..

PLEASEEEEEEEE help!

ANYBODY !!!!!!!!:green:

Hi try pming Persionista, she is great on this type of stuff

I generally don't give an opinion on stuff like this as I think every salon is different. Do your figures and work out what YOUR salon can pay. It depends on a huge amount of factors such as VAT/NO VAT, overheads, local norms etc etc.
What I expect to pay here in London is different to up North. Likewise what I pay a top stylist with a client base is different from one without clients.

o.k thanks.....anybody else with ideas would be appreciated

2 things. If you are a stylist/ salon owner, surely you know how much stylists get?
Failing that ring up salons local to you that are looking for stylists and see what they are offering.
I dont think anyone is going to give you specifics on a public forum.

How about asking the sylist what she is hoping/expecting to earn per hour/ day/ week?
I would imagine she would go higher than what she really would expect so maybe use that as a guildline.
Just an idea - as it seems you arent getting too much help :irked:

Also depends on her experiance, advanced training etc, & your location, at a complete guess maybe £8-£10 hour! With % comission on selling products.

How about looking through job sites to see how much money sylists are being offered.

Hope that helps

Up North it is normally Min. wage plus 20% commission AFTER you have doubled your wages.
Example.
You pay them £200 per week and they take £500 in sales. You pay them 20% on the excess hundred.
I start all mine on min. wage and then up the hourly rate once they have built a clientèle. Like Persianista said, you have to take in account if they have a clientèle or not. I worked out what each chair costs me to run, to then work out what I can afford to pay.

I wish I could pay stylists min wage!

thanks hun for your help...
