Hi Ive recently set up my business and I saw an advert for free website through Getting British Businesses Online and Google
Getting British Business Online

Ive set one up through google sites but finding it difficult to manage, Im ok on the computer and understand html but I cant add anything to the site like a statcounter and a contact form. I keep getting the message

'Your html content will be modified
Your HTML either contains unsafe tags (iframe, embed, styles, script) or extra attributes. They will be removed when the page is viewed.'

Is it me? or is it google being rubbish? Im thinking maybe I should just go with another free website provider until I can afford to pay someone to do it.

Well, that would rule out adding things like embedded YouTube videos, Google Analytics (unless the site is already "wired in" to support that), Google Maps, Flash, etc, then, as they all require being able to embed objects, iframes or script into the page.

In which case, to be frank, Google have really missed a trick, if indeed this is the case!

On the edit screen there is a link to add maps, videos, picasa and you can add them easily...maybe its just all things non google that you cant add. Typical.

Thanks

Ah, that makes more sense then. Would be interesting to see how you're meant to add a third-party Flash animation then, or any nice JQuery plugins, for example. Many of the Flash image viewers and music players require an XML configuration file too - so it would be interesting to see how GBBO handles (or doesn't handle) stuff like that...
