I was browsing through some portfolio pics some time ago, and saw a set of pink and whites where the smile lines were very soft, like a colour fade. I have since tried to find out how they were done, but can only find pics and instructions for glitter and coloured acrylics. Can anyone please tell me how to get this effect

Do you have the picture to show us as im not quite sure i understand. I cant even visualise what you mean chick.

Are you refering to P&W where the white is more of a natural or creamy colour rather than bright white?

Hi. No, sorry I dont have the pics (should have saved them), and I've been searching ever since! The white could have been either brill or soft- it was the way it was applied that intrigued me. The smiles weren't crisp, as normal, but very soft and fuzzy. The white finished quite a way down the nail plate and just disappeared into the pink- almost as though it had been airbrushed. I've seen similar effects with glitter and pink, but not with p&w. Sorry, but I don't know how to explain any better (I'm a bit of a newbie)

LOL... know what you mean. A lady showed me a set the ther day that she had done else where......they were a fab set... looked lovely. She said that the tech used CND natural white.....i have not used CND natural so not sure how it comes out but i thought it was not an opaque powder but a semi transparant...so i think it must have been soft white that was used.
As to how it was applied im not 100% sure so sorry i cant help you there....all i can think is that the bead on the smile was applied quite wet....but then this would quite product breakdown...so I am stumpted too!!!!!!

ive seen them too, i think on a russian web gallery.

i cant say ive done them, but i do like them.
i would start with the white, maybe a little wetter than normal and softly brush it up the nail to feather the edge out and then apply the pink.
it couldnt hurt to try it out on a spare tip

Thanks guys. I'll give it a go. It's been driving me mad. I've spent hours searching for the pics. I should've asked you guys first and saved myself the headaches!

Isn't that the million dollar smiles>? just a thought i saw something that fits what missie is meaning on the tutorials forum.

Im thinking it may be opaque pink thats been used as sometimes it can make the smile line less crisp, it has done this in my nails which I did the other day. I have pink coloured acrylic tips and applied with opaque pink made the smile line visible but less distinct-it looks great.

Thanks guys for all your efforts. I watched the you tube video and then went on to watch a whole lot more-don't know where the day's gone to! I think the nearest to what I mean is Angie's practice tip. I had a go at doing one myself, as suggested, and tried to take a photo, but it wasn't very clear. Never mind- I'm not giving up on this one. I'll post a pic if I manage to find one!

The only suggestion i can think of is to use soft white, or a blend of soft white, natural with a hint of yellow for a natural free edge.

Also dragging zone two over zone one can cause shadowing of the smile line.

Is it something like this you are talking about

Also in my gallery i have some soft white & pink nails that have a soft almost featheres like look where the smile is not as crisp.

Please let us know if you come about the pic again, i would love to lok at what you mean (although i think i know)

if i am thinking of the same thing, the nails dont really have a smile line as such, its more like a glitter fade where one colour merges into the next, but done with pink and white powders instead of glitter ones.

OOO.KKKK! Have found SOMETHING like what I'm talking about- but without the chinese symbols. I'm going to try and upload the pic. If I can't manage it, I'll try and post it on Geeks Gallery. Please let me know what you think xx

sorry , pic is too little for my frail eyesight !

Hi guys, back again. Have been browsing through "smile lines" on this site, and found a post by LINDAG from way back in 2004. She described some nails she'd seen as looking like they'd been dipped in snow. Sounds like what I'm after. She doesnt seem to have been online for quite some time, otherwise I'd have emailed her. Unfortunately there is no pic:cry:

Sorry, I've just spotted your reply- must have missed it before. That's exactly what I mean. Thankyou sooooo much. How would I go about doing this- bearing in mind I've not done much nail art. I had a go myself, but it didn't blend very well- you could still differentiate between white and pink.
p.s. A pic would be fab?:o

nag me on monday if i havent found it by then.
