hey everyone

i have a client that came in for her third appointment for a new set of acrylic nails an when she sat down she had removed all of the nails her self just under a week ago...i was horrified when she showed me her hands and there was three green nails (omg i was devistated) the client didnt seem to be stressed about it at all. the green was not as bad in colour as it could have been or was, she said it was much darker when she removed the nails but has been fading. she had put on nail polish remover to try rid the stains.

i wasnt goin to re aply anymore nails but she was sneaped when i said this. so i looked at the nails and there was no green under the nail plate just on the nail surface so i buffed, sanitized, wiped with acetone untill the mark was nearlly gone but it was still visable. i replaced the nails and told her to contact me if there is any change in the condition of the nails so i could remove them right away..

i have been doing this job for 7 months now so i still have so much to learn :x

Have a read of this tutorial. It is fine to reapply gels etc... after finding a greenie. You mention wiping the nail plate with acetone. There is no need to do this. A reputable sanitizer is all that is needed eg. sanitize, buff with a 240 grit buffer and sanitize again.

The gentle buffing is sufficient to remove most of the stain. What stain is left is just 'stain' and as long as the rest of the nail plate is intact, you can proceed.

My big concern here is that this client removed her enhancements herself :(. Big no no and it is possible she may be a serial picker, which may be how she arrived at getting greenies in the first place. Why did she remove her acrylics? Was there some lifting and where on her nails did it begin as this may also have been a prep problem.

hi

thanks so much for getting bk to me. yes it was a really small amount of stain left...hmmm i know i was horrified, she has flacked parts of her nail away by doing it. i did tell her if she has any problems at all she must come back to me for removal, the nail has thinned now as well, im gussing this is due to picking off and mosisture, she told me she pecked at them because she had lost a few of them so the lot went: also, thanks for the resurence i felt really worried for a few days because i have confedence in my judgment but im self employed and dont have anyone to bounce back on, so its all up to me decide and although i thought it was ok, i did doubt it slightly as i have not come across this yet. But there is going to be plenty i will come accross in the years i will be doing this lol.

I will look at the tutorial and thanks agen

hi a friend who wants acrylic done has green patch on her nail which she said has been on there for 6 months covers bout half the nail but hasnt grown out ? she got it after having acrylic in january and took them of herself and it was under the acrylic does she need to see doctor before having another set put on xx

After 6 months?! I would say yes, she should see a doctor. Typically "greenies" grow out and can be buffed lightly, soaked in peroxide and they will go away quickly. But after six months and it is in the same place? I would want a scraping done at a docs and find out what the heck it is!

Hi ,

I had a client who had two green nails on big toes, it looked quite bad but she had treatment on toes for fungal infection. She explained the infection was completely dead but she could not get rid of colour. I sent her to a chiropodist who advised her not to get any gel or acrylic enhancements until it had grown out (can take a year). I would still advise her to see a doctor to see if there in infection present. Hope this helps :D

This is normally caused by a bacterial infection, water gets under the acrylic and causes this discolouration. It can take months for this to grow out, it is not a fungal infection as this looks completely different and has a distinct odour. The nail itself thickens, looks frayed and is yellow to off white in colour, these nails definately need to be seen and treated by a GP. I would wait until this discolouration has grown out before applying gel or l & p, she could have some manicures to help condition her nails and help speed up the growth of her nails.

Greenies on nail plates represents a bacterial infection... not fungal!

if you think it may be an infection try not to do any work untill your client has seen a doctor. The best way to tell if it is an infection is by putting a drop of peroxide on the affected nail, if it bubbles and then foams your client will need to see the doctor as this indicates an infection
