Hi all hope you all well.
Anyway i had a client{friend} in today thats is really hairy and she is a lady on the large side. She came for a full leg wax but warned me that every she has had struggled getting the job done. Her hair growth is all over the place, the bottom half was fine but the top was sooooo hard,at one point i thought i was gone cry cos i couldnt get them out,i found it hard to hold the skin as afraid of touching areas i shouldnt!
She is a lovely lady thankgod and know i have only just qaulified in this area so was understanding. Some other waxers have let her leave sometimes with only half the hairs off so i wanted to do a good job.I tried my hardest but it took me ages, double the time it normally does then my back was in half as i suffer with joint probs, sio she was concernd for and i was concerd for her if you get me.Im not sure if she will come back for waxing we will see, i hope she does cos i enjoyed the challenge but nealy did give up at one point!

Any tips or advice on larger ladies with awkward hair growth would be most appreciated, thanks for listening!

The size of your client shouldn't matter. Yes it can take longer because you're cover more expanse of skin, but I don't understand why you couldn't get the hairs out.

As far as touching her where you shouldn't and your aching joints? Do you really think that beauty is the right job for you? I'm not being sarcasticm I'm really not. It can be hard going being on your feet all day, especially waxing. xxx

My advice would be... when she comes back, make sure you have plenty of time to do the treatment, so you don't feel rushed. Also allow yourself time before the treatment to centre yourself.

Don't be shy about touching her and getting her into postitions, because the most important thing is to do a good job, and that is to get all the hair out. So...

I would start with the calves, then knees, then the fronts of the thighs. Then.. put one leg into a bikini wax position to do the inside of the thigh, and if possible use hard wax for this area. Ditto other leg.

Treat each section as if it's the only section you are doing, i.e. do one section completely before moving on to the next section. Be absolutely methodical and pay attention to the direction of the hair growth.

I would then ask her to lift her knee up to her chest, to wax the top of the back of one thigh. Ditto other leg. This creates a nice stretch and also is much easier to actually get to the hairs, because when she turns over, hairs at the top of the thigh will disappear into the crease under her bum.

Next, ask her to lie on her side (either side) to wax the side of the thigh... this is so much easier than trying to get to there when she's lying on her back. Ditto other side.

Then get her to roll on her front and hopefully... voila!... there will be hardly any hair left on the backs of the thighs to wax.

Be methodical. Stretch as much as possible. Use hard wax for tough hairs.

Waxing is tiring. But it's also very profitable

Have fun. Practice makes perfect.

Hi Kim, i know your not been funny about saying about the job i know what you meen.I only do the odd bits to stop my mind from going mad if you get me, i do more nails where i can sit so its not much on my feet.I wanted to help her as she normally goes to college to have her treatments there but with being closed for hols i said i would do it for her.I worded that wrong kim about touching where i shouldnt sorry, i mean like really streching the skin in the upper part of the inner thigh as its more loose there, its hard to write what i mean. She warned me before i did it about problems with the hairs as they grow all different ways,so i had to really watch which way i applied the wax and pulled.Thers no way i could wax all day anyway as much as i would like as i would be in agony, thats why i only do bits as they say. Thanks x

Don't worry about it. If you're ever really worried, just click on the link below and call me and I'll talk you through positions, stretching etc. Don't worry as the more you worry, the more you'll go wrong. xxx

Zo Zo, thanks for the advice i really did want to ask her to get into different positions so it would give the skin a nice stretch and for me to have room inner thigh but she cant as she struggles with lifting her legs so i didnt have a lot of room in the inner thigh area to work if you get me.I did work in sections to make sure i coverd the areas well and didnt miss anywhere.I think what made it worse aswell is that her hubby waits outside in the car for her so i felt abit pannicky about the timings, she said he always does it and she tells him off n to go home to wait for the phonecall but he always does it then rings the mobile to see how long she is gong to be.Even if shes shopping hes ringing her, anyway she left a nice comment on the consultation card so i think she was ok with the timings anyway. So the thing i need to do is just get that body in the positions if i can {hopefully} and things will get better with practice!
Thanks for tips x

Thanks you have given me some food for thought there

:hug:xxx

For the inner thigh, if possible, you could get her to hold the skin from the underneath once you've got her in the bikini position.

Kim, well i think you was right as i cant walk very good this morning im in agony with my back!
I know i have problems but i didnt think that little extra work of waxing would do this.It hurst more when i do it i know that but i can cope with it but because it was a longer wax time its really affected me, i couldnt even get out of bed right this morning.I dont want to upset the lady as she knew i was in pain cos she knows me but i think full leg waxes are off the agender for me:cry::cry:.
Im gutted as i thought my back would take it and hold out but obvisously not,i feel hopepless sometimes when i cant do things like fit people do stupid things like playing with kids it hurts like mad,its like whats the point!
So guys thanks for ya advice but i dont think i will be doing one again.

Thanks x

if you know that one bit is easy and straight forward and the other more difficult ie her thighs, i would start with the moe difficult area, and get it out the way. at least then you wont get stressed out about it as much!! :green:

Have you tried a back support belt type thing, i'm not sure how practicle re-movement they are though. But it's worth a try

My chiropractor said these are a bad idea, as they do the job your own muscles and bones shold be doing, and it makes them weak and you worse off inthe long run!!

Sorry to hear you're suffering today. I am prone to neck & back problems too & felt like you when I returned to beauty after a long break (having babies!).

In the beginning I was worried I may not be up to it anymore, I found things like full body massage, a few spray tans in a row or a lot of waxing etc would definately make me sore the next day. but, I found it didn't take long for this to become much less noticeable.

I think the more you do of things, the more efficient you become so you use less effort but also build up the strength & muscles that you need in certain areas! It's a bit like suddenly going full out at the gym after not having done any exercise for years! Bound to feel it!

Of course, you may have a more severe case than me but it is worth perservering if you really want to, just to see if you can train your body to cope.

Could you get some friends in to practice on, just to keep your 'waxing muscles' working (!!) & maybe this lady could come in for 2 appointments where you do a half leg at one and then the thigh at a seperate time. May help with her mobility issues too,ie not to be lying on the couch for too long so she may be able to move around to help you better.

Don't give up yet if this is just one bad experience! Good luck hope you feel better soon.

Oh hun,
My heart is with u on this one, i know that waxing like massages can really take it out of u especielly if u suffer with your back. When i firsted started in the industry massage used to literally kill me. My hands and wrists and back would hurt. But u find over time u build muscles in areas which provide extra strength to troublesome areas. There is specific techniques whilst waxing or doing massage that u can adopt to help with these issues and really all therapist with back problems or not should adopt these techniques. It would be very difficult to type them on here as really u need to be shown.
In regards to your lady, did u find it was the fact that she was larger lady and it was harder holding the skin and because u lacked the confidence to ask your lady to alter her position that applied more stress to u as a therapist. Some people find it very hard to touch others as they feel that it would embarass there ladys. But and i will say this, waxing is although many say otherwise a skill, and many whome beleive they can wax are actually causing pain and damage to there ladies. I only say this from past experience from working in salons.
I am not by any means saying u can not wax, as by all accounts the fact the treatment took longer and due to you being reluctant to touch your client caused added strain to your back. Personally i would highly recommend u visited one of the mentors or trainers, not for your waxing technique as such, but more on how u can increase your waxing time through application no matter whether the lady is larger or smaller. Also to show u how u should stand and possision yourself so that u do not have to undergo this pain or turn clients away because of it. If i can help in any way or u fancy coming to derbyshire i would be more than happy to help u . pm me if i can help u or give any more advise hun, in the mean time add three drops of lavender to your bath with a small cup of milk to disperce the oils, and try not to sit for to long and be as mobile as u can so u do not seize up
big hugs coming your way chic:hug:
