You may not have known it, but April 22nd was Earth Day. Aveda have been running their annual month-long Earth Month campaign since 1999 raising money for environmental charities and, since 2007, have focused on ensuring all have access to clean water.

In one of their biggest fund-raising events ever, Aveda raised $220,000 by organising a 24 hour Cut-a-Thon that travelled across fifteen countries and included over nine hundred salons. Starting in Asia, passing through Australia and Europe and finishing in North America, the global Cut-A-Thon not only raised a huge amount of money but also set a Guinness World Record for the most money raised for charity through haircuts in 24 hours.

Aveda salons offered haircuts for donations in North America, Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Switzerland, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the UK ensuring that, for 24 hours straight, hair was being cut for charity.

The event was just one part of Aveda's Earth Month Campaign which raised $4.6 million in 2012 and a whopping $5.5 million in 2013. The money will benefit more than 40 clean water organisations worldwide.

Until then...geek on!
