My girls are to young for trick or treating and when I grew up we didnt do it.
It only seems to have become popular in the past few years.
I personally would prefer to host parties when the girls are older, but what do you do?

Heres my youngest in her spider outfit.
We were in Tescos this morning and they were reduced to silly money so I thought I'd get them some for their dressing up box, she picked the spider she could have been a cat.

Bless her:)

This will be the first year i don't have to do it anymore. My daughters too old for it all, although she is walking round with the twins she babysits, and my son is old enough to go on his own, but under strict instructions to only do our few roads and to only go to houses that are participating and no tricks.

I shall be answering the door with my bowl of sweets and my husband will just be getting annoyed with it all. Hes praying for rain the grumpy old ***.

i love halloween , so yeah we will be going , although most of the people round here are miserable farts who look at you like you are mad , lol
i shall be doing the whole face pinting etc,.. when i have got james from school this aft , olivia is being a pumkin fairy , lol

We have always gone trick or treating,
I love the nerves and excitment on my kids faces when they knock on a door lol

I was sort of hoping this would be my first year of not having to go...but will see when they get home..
My eldest only wants to do it for the free sweets, but is gutted she will miss the soaps  , and my youngest is sulking as she only has the same dress she has already wore for 2 years..but I can't afford to buy her a different one :o

So fingers crossed I wont have to go

i never let my kids go trick or treating, too many bad experiences im afraid.

we have had a massive party the last 4 years, half the street etc it costs me a fortune, but kids love it, they are safe and they dont bug me about 'why are they the only kids in the world not allowed to trick or treat' etc etc, but this year i thought, bugger it, why am i the one doing this year in year out, no one else ever offers , even to help organise it, so i decided not too, we found a little brewers fayre pub just down the road, doing a halloween party for kids, £5.99 food, face painting, best pumpkin comp, fancy dress comp, clown, games etc and i thought, wowser im dong that, 5.30-8pm tonight, so by time we get home they'll go straight to bed and most of the trick or treaters will have been round already, so we won't get bombarded, and we get to have sit in the restaurant and have nice meal, whilst they are enjoying themselves

hoorahhh, this is the first year in 7 years, im not been stringing up apples, making spaghetti and eyeballs!! covering every room in spiders web and decorations, and its saving me a fortune

hope you all enjoy whatever you do tonight

xxxxxx

i dont do trick or treat...my children are TOO shy to go anywhere with me now cos its not cool to be seen with your parents!!!!! i remember those days....my son wont even let me bip at him at the bus stop if i am driving past, cos he is told old (14 years old!!) for me to wave at him....kids!!!!!!xxxx:green:

Have you always called in trick or treating in England?? I thought it was just in America.

Here is Scotland it is called Guising......when you dress up and go round your neighbours houses and perform a party piece, singing, dancing, telling a joke etc and get given sweets, monkey nuts, tangerines as a reward. Party games like doookin' for apples are also traditional.
Lanterns are traditionally made from Turnips!!! (not the wee ones but the big ones you English call Swede!) not pumpkins.
I do think it a bit sad when kids here start talking about trick or treat.......and do feel we should stick to our own traditions and not import them from abroad. IMHO.

I'm now thinking I may pop to the shop..buy some apples , cooking choc etc...rice crispies and spooky sweets...and see if my kids wanna stay in and make halloween sweets and stuff instead ..
fingers crossed for me peeps.
I have a client tonight too...So i really cant be bothered walking the whole of my neighbourhood for hours in the cold lol

We dont go Trick or Treating with my 2, Harry is almost 5 and Millie is almost 3 1/2. Nobody really opens their doors, as half the village are elderly. So I just do a pumpkin with the kids, do hotdogs and marshmallows dipped into melted chocolate, and then for the kids that do come round to us we have a bucket of treats!

We are 1 of 3 houses that opens the door for it, so we get the treats in! Bonfire Night is a big thing in our house though!

I don't think trick or treating has been around all that long, yep, I believe we've copied it from America and it seems to grow in popularity every year.

I like the idea of them doing a party piece or something, Izzidoll . . . I'm going to set a trend by demanding a performance before they get their treat lol! Can you imagine their faces?

I've got some sweets in for when any kids knock but I can't see the point in it at all really. My kids will be sitting in waiting to hand the sweets out  while I'm working!

We don't do anything at all here, it just doesn't seem to have caught on in oz.

It's a shame, cause it looks like a lot of fun for the kids.

Also my birthday is on Halloween, so it would be great to have a Halloween costume party to celebrate it, but people just don't get into it here.

My daughter went trick or treating for the last time this year, she is now 13 and decided when she came home that she is tooooooooooooooo old. Its the end of another era. Oh well I shall still hand out sweets in exchange for a song or joke.

Trick or treating is HUGE around here. Not many children would miss it. I travel to my nephews' town each year to trick or treat with them. It's only fun with young ones. Last night the weather was beautiful here!
