Also do you know anyone whos had it what if so what was it like thanks guys xxxxxx:cry:

Give your gp a call or try NHS Direct - they will advise you I'm sure.

Thanks pure thats what i thaught as docs will be closed i will do that now xxxxx

Oh for goodness sake this swine flu is driving me nuts. Sorry to sound rude, i'm not being.
There is a confirmed case in my sons school. The mothers are all up in arms about it.
Am I still sending my boy? Yes! You can walk around the supermarket and catch it. There's nothing to worry about if you are fit and healthy. I think it's all got a bit out of hand. If you gunna catch it then you will, theres no point putting your life or business on hold thinking that it will come to attack you

Hear hear! I totally agree with you.
In fact I'd rather get it now just in case a more virulant strain develops later in the year, which scientists think could happen. Then at least I'd have resistance to it.

Yeh me too. I'm not scared of it lol. There's even injections you can get against it so i hear. I'm not sure how true that is though.
We are lucky it's not bird flu and pig flu going around together cos then we would be in trouble!

Hi All,

We have had H1N1 here in New Zealand since April. Whilst I agree the panic is uncalled for, I would tell you to prepare yourselves because it seems to be affecting children up to age 20 worse than anyone else.

All three of my kids have had it and it really knocked them for six. These are kids that usually do no get sick much so it was quite the surprise. My girls were home for two weeks!

People who have underlying conditions have to be careful. Heart/Diabetes/Asthma. If you or your kids have issues like that and get sick, def let your GP know cos they may just give you an antiviral med to keep it from getting too severe.

Otherwise standard protocol applies, proper handwashing, covering mouth/nose when coughing/sneezing, liquids, paracetemol. I didn't get it (surprise) but then again I take a multivitamin and additional C and Zinc. That seemed to keep me from getting it (and when I say the only one who didn't get it, I mean in my family of five and in my group of mates....everyone got it in some form or another - supposedly Wellington NZ has the most cases of it in the world right now).

No need to panic, just be aware that it is a bit more nasty than the average flu and just take care.

:)

Oh how awful for them. Poor little things

Although I agree with the washing of hands and stuff, I just find it a waste of time because not everyone will do it. You touch things without realising. Germs are everywhere as well as in the air. Your hands would be red raw from the constant washing
I really think if you are going to get it then you will. There's no point in worrying until and if that time comes.

I understand that everyone is not as 'oh well' about it as me but really wish everyone would stop worrying

I agree with you Kylie, I don't see much point in worrying, that in itself can make you ill. The time to worry is if and when it happens, until then its just negative energy.

Hand sanitiser is a godsend. Seriously. Especially with kids in primary school. You are going to have to trust me on this one. Unless you've been through it, you have no idea.

Yes as I said I am fit and healthy but I treat the elderly, the disabled and people who need trearments at home because they cant get out. For example the lady I treated today has resparitary problems and has had a collapsed lung. I just wanted to know what others would do thats all.

I have to say I am a little concerned, not panicking! Because those who have died in this country the medical pro's have said that they have all had underlying medical conditions but they haven't said what they are. Now if it were something like cancer surely they would have said so, but they aren't. So what if those underlying conditions were something as common as asthma! That is what worries me, and the lack of information about it.

As long as you are fit and healthy at the moment then i see no need to worry otherwise you will be worrying for the next however many months.
If you do get symptoms then you should probably be tested quite quickly and then those people who you have visited who may be at serious risk if they got flu because of their illnesses could maybe then be prescribed an antiviral.
We have it in our town too a school has been closed this week and my husband is up and down to London everyday by train and tube so unless we all lock ourselves in the house and don't see anyone there isnt much point worrying.

Nows the best time to catch swine flu! I am hoping I get it! If you get it while its mild then you become immune to it, which if it gets stronger and resiliant towards any drugs then its far worse!

The only people so far ~ as far as I am aware who died from swine flu had other more serious underlying conditions.

If you don't want it, you could wear a mask at work and ensure you sterilese your hands before and after every client.

I thought that they were developing a vaccination for it ?

Think they are, but they are speculating that it could mutate to a different strain. Would be good to have a really mild dose of it, as everyone has said it will build up your immune system x

lol talk about what you wish for! My b/f has just been diagnosed with Swine flu. I thought he would have to be straight jacketed off to the nearest quarantine centre and left there for 40 days and 40 nights! No such luck, hes just moping about the house with a face as long as a horse!

His GP just sent a prescription to Asda and told him to stay in doors!?! like is that it! Apparently many people have it but they are treating it like normal flu.

Now I am not fussed, he has it so what! I am a little concerned about the baby but I still stand by the fact I would rather have it now than later.

My point is everyones reaction that now knows about! Its like the plague lol! Suppose its one way to keep my mother away but surely people want it? Right?

He is a mess, and really poorly but I am keeping him active out in the garden building a rabbit hutch and stuff and I am sure he will feel better in a few days ~ providing he survives lol!

So should I tell people that I am going to see this week about this or shouldn't I? Obviously if they are pregnant, elderly or ill I would!

My ex picked up swine flu 2 weeks ago, he thoght that it was just a bad case of flu and just got on with things, he developed severe breathing difficulties and so took himself off to hospital. He was admitted straight away, had blood tests and was told that he had pneumonia and discharged a day later with antibiotics. Two days later the hospital rang to tell him to return and collect antiviral tabs as he infact had swine flu (always said he was a pig lol). Hes a right as rain now, but hes girlfriends 7 yr old now has it and is on antiviral tabs.
If you develop severe flu symptoms along with sickness and the trots, dont play tough get it checked out!.

Yeh I would tell my clients because i think that u dont know what there family members suffer from/friends kids may have heath issues etc. The attitude around here is its the plague and no one wants it not even to get imunity lol!! I am going to still see my clients unless i get ill or they are ill obviously. Its spreading all round our community at the mo but the local doctor said its a mild form and not to worry too much but as I said my clients alot of them are not in brilliant health and i hope they are all ok!!!!!

It has arrived in my town.
I am very concerned.
First because I work with the public so A) odds higher of catching it, B) odds are high I'd infect others without knowing if I had it.
Secondly, my sister has a newborn baby which I see OFTEN, just over a week old.
Thirdly, because I am presently on Prednisone (a steroid) which weakens the immune system WHICH was not so great to begin with... so I'm nervous. In my house, when 'we' catch something, I'm usually the one that suffers that worst.. Ex: my hubby's 1wk cold last's 1.5mths for me.

I do NOT think it's foolish to be 'nervous' or 'concerned'. Frankly, I think if you're not nervous, THEN you are foolish. Odds are, you get over it no problem. But what of those that don't? Health is not a laughing matter, and one never knows which way it's going to go.

Take smart precautions as best you can, and think positive. That's about all anyone can do, that hasn't contracted it. Consult local health authorities and do as they suggest. No sense worrying overmuch, because that will just stress you out and gain you nothing. Be proactive.
