Hi all Ive been looking at both full time and intense/fast track in beauty therapy level 2 NVQ VTCT.
The full time 2 days a week sept-July is with Burghley academy http://burghleyacademy.co.uk which is nearly £5000 and the intense/fast track 1 day a week over 20 weeks is with chic Beauty Academy http://www.chicbeautyacademy.co.uk which is £2200.

My heart says full time but financially intense/ fast track would be better! I am 30yrs of age with a 6 and 2 year old to consider too.

So really I'm looking for advise.
Has anyone done the intense NVQ?
What was your experience like? Did you feel it was enough amount of time? Or just any info on the intense and full time even better if you've attended any training with the above academy's pls let me know if the training was any good etc???

Sorry to babble on but thank you for taking time to read and help me with my decision.
Michelle :) x

Hi :)

I've literally just been looking at burghley academy too!

I'm wanting to do my level 3 there I think. Can't offer much advice but last year I did a full time course at Stamford college for my level 2 which was great, lots of practise etc but it was only 2/3 days a week so more intense I think would have been fine.

At the same time I was there a friend did her level 2 with burghley. She found it really good, she's a great therapist, it sounds like a good school. But she did say that a lot of the a and p work you have to find the motivation to do yourself at home in your own time rather than in a classroom supervised by teachers, but obviously the support of the tutors is there, just not the classroom time - can't speak from personal experience though!

Hope that helps a little bit I'm some way!

I'll be following this thread :)

Thank you so much so your friend says practical done at the school the paper work mostly done at home? X

Hiya:
I am doing a 'fast track' VTCT beauty specialist Level 2 diploma course with a training academy local to me. The classes are small-only 2-3 per class and the teaching is of a high standard with individual attention BUT I find things like I am submitting assignments and it takes ages for them to be marked or for me to gain feedback. Also I feel like I am missing out a bit on observed practical work as we tend to get shown something like waxing, have a practice on a model in the class, then we will come back and do one formative then a summative in it and then do remaining case studies at home providing photos. It works for me for things like facials, manicures, pedicures and tinting as I do have plenty of people to work on at home-charging them just for cost of materials. However, with waxing very few people seem to want it doing-although this is not something I plan on offering when I launch my mobile business.
Also, I think in a mainstream college there is more support with written assignments and theory where as with fast track this is largely left up to you.
I went down this route as I wanted to fit in the hours of study around my part time job. However, if I go on to do level 3 I will look at mainstream colleges to see if they offer any evening courses

Hi - I've just finished part time level 2 beauty. We did 3 1/2 hrs on Monday and Tuesday. It is very intense and I know that some of the girls have really struggled. I started offering mobile treatments straight away and I know that has helped my skills and enabled me to pass all my assessments first time.

I've also really enjoyed the a&p but there is loads to learn and you need to be motivated. Please don't go for a course based on speed of passing as you may feel you haven't had much support/practice and that will affect your confidence.

Good luck in whatever you decide. :green:

Yes, I think that's what she said :) but the classes are small so there's plenty of time and support if you do need help with the theory x

I did Gloucestershire college beauty Therapy level 2 express course , 4 months,3 full days. And its very good! For that money -1000£ I think i learned a lot!

Thank you all for your replies everyone x

Just thought I'd update as we're looking at the same sort of places..

Think I'll be going with Burghley Academy. They seem lovely, very experienced and very keen to help. As I'm on my gap year in NZ I'm unable to go and look around so have lots of questions.

I sent chic academy a similar email with a couple of questions and I received a reply that just said 'yeah. It's fast track' literally nothing else. All personal preference but to me, and just from my conversations with the two places, Burghley seems more professional and of a higher standard etc. but please anyone correct me if I'm wrong!

No I completely agree Burghley much more professional! Going next week to see Tina and stay for a full day to see a class in progress can't wait :)
I also give Peterborough regional college a ring there fees have doubled this year so even tho £1000 cheaper than burghley academy think ill defo be going with Burghley as college said its a class of 20-30 as appose to 4-6. X

Oh wow! Think it'll be worth it for the extra £1000 though and you can do it as a fast track. Peterborough don't do it as a fast track do they? Thanks for letting me know - I'll be going to look round soon too! Have been emailing Tina and she sounds lovely and so helpful. Good luck! X

Hi Michelle/Lottie

There is nothing unprofessional about us at Chic Beauty Academy -there has been lack of replies to queries these last couple of weeks due to a death in the family. Michelle as you're well aware when your partner made initial contact all questions he and yourself had were answered in an efficient manner.

I apologise for the lack of communication the last couple of weeks but I had no control over the death that took place so I don't appreciate Chic Beauty Academy being slandered and being labelled unprofessional.

Thank you

I don't think Lottie called you unprofessional, she just said the other training were more professional, which is not slander, it is highly possible for one place to be better then another. She is quoting her personal experience and saying she found one more professional then the other. Nothing wrong with that.
