I have just completed a course in uv cured acrylics and now know that i made the wrong choice :) I am floundering, I do have some interactive stuff with the course organisers but it is not helping. I really want to do well with nail extensions, want to do nail art etc etc. I just feel I have been sold a pup. What I need to know from you people out there is where do I go from here? I have a room set up at home that is very nice and relaxed, I have flyers ready to roll and ads ready to go. I have all on hold as I think I really need to do another course? The bio sculpture gel sounds awesome but, could I do the tech's course, I know manicure but is that enough or do i need the begginers? Should I just do a cnd gel course and work it from there. I really really want to do nails.Want to be creative, I just feel that there is soooo much I need to learn. You pro's just make me think sometimes, will i ever get there...........I know i will but, I am no spring chicken so it makes it harder :(

There is a lot to learn...learning NEVER stops...be pretty boring if it did tho...even techs that have years of experience behind them still have something to learn! It can feel like your stood at the bottom of a mountain when you first start out tho  but just try not to run before you can walk and you will get there.

What course did you do and what specifically are you struggling with? why do you think you have made a mistake? Everybody is here to help your not alone so :)

Wel, I have done this uv cured acrylics. Seems to me now it is neither one thing or the other. I went for it as I wanted to work from home and it is odour free. The course was only an hour or so away from me and so, knowing nothing about what is good or bad I paid for the course and also paid £200 for the kit (inc uv lamp) I just feel now that now I have done a couple of full sets and the resulting infills, I need hands on help. Like I am having lifting probs. Is it my sealing? are my clients (I say clients in the plural, I have only done a couple or so. in the main i have been doing the practice hand) I even use am illuminated magnifying desk lamp to work on my clients nails so I can really see what is going on. I am soooo flustrated as I am unsure where i am going wrong. Help :( by the way,the course was ETI in Eccles

Could you tell me the name of the course you did and what brand of products you are using? You need to put more detail in your profile.

You are on line what do u think? Sorry, I am a bit new to this salon geek as well as everything else. Huge learning curve. I shall look at my profile that i did not know i had :) in the meantime. The kit I bought from the ETI training course in Eccles is all "rebel rebel" All the liquid and powder and tip remover etc etc is all rebel rebel. You can check the course out at www.e-nails.org What do you think...I know, probably not a lot but, I learnt a lot of stuff regarding health, contra indications, nail strucrure, nail disorders etc do i guess if nothing else I got a grounding in natural manicure and some

Ok ive had a quick look through the link...ive personally never heard of them or rebel rebel products...that is not to say they aren't any good! Ive never heard of that particular brand of product and have no idea how much you have been taught etc but maybe somebody else on the site has and can give you better advice with your problems.

However...there are obviously not so good courses, good courses and great courses! You will soon find out via this site the ones with the best reputation etc

which ever course you take though..it is always only a start..an introduction if you like.
Your course states that you will be a competant manicurist and technician after your training...but really how is that possible after 2 days? The trouble is many people do not realise that there is a lot more to it than a 2 day course..you probably took that course thinking that would be it...youd be straight out there 'doing nails' and unfortunately you are now starting to see that it really is not that easy...you will have constant challenges to tackle as we all have had and still have.. and you will need to take further courses to improve your knowledge and skills etc

Im a little unsure what system you have learnt to be honest...uv cured acrylics...do you use gel? or do you use liquid and powder?

ok so ive just been for a little nosey around the site and im thinking you MIGHT be using an acrygel system!! Something I know nothing about...all the experts are probably tucked up in their beds right now but im sure you will get lots of help when they are about!
In the mean time if you look along the blue bar along the top of the page you will see 'search'...click on there to get a search box and type in 'acrygel'....this will bring lots of different threads up about this system.

Most of us have lifting problems when we first start...I still have lifting problems but no where as bad as when I first started...the more you learn and the more you practice and gain experience..the more you can irradicate these problems.

Lifting is often due to insufficient prep and/or product touching the skin....there can be other reasons too but often that is why.

Here are a couple of links for you to have a good read of that might be of interest to you...there is lots of information in the tutorials and articles section.

Hey, thanks for that. I know i am not using the acrygel systen. It is l&p but is cured under a uv lamp for 4 mins. U know, I am really thourough with the prep and everything but I did notice on the nails that lifted. They were the ones that the product sort of was runnier, like sort of ran into a couple of the nail walls. I removed it with a birch stick before I cured the extensions and did not think anything about it. I have read on this site laterly, about product touching the walls. We were not taught about this on the course. Well, only in so much as to leave a margin so one could seal the extension. Thanks agin for the advice and the links....get warm :)

Unfortunately, 2 days is nowhere near enough to be competent enough to start with paying clients and the company is wrong for implying that this is the case!

I looked at the site and they do offer more training free of charge.

The UV gel system has been around for years but is not one of the most popular. It is quite easy to train with though as it gives you time with product placement before it cures.

I suggest you have a good rummage through this site and look at training options and opinions. Being a nail technician is a professional occupation and there is no quick fix for fast training. As with any practical skill (let alone the vast supporting knowledge) lots of practice is essential. There are also many health and safety rules and guidelines that must be followed when providing services to paying clients that need to be learnt, understood and followed.

It is such a shame that so many training companies give the impression that 2 days is enough for all this.

Good luck and use this site to help you through it all

Hey, thanks for the information. You are so right that 2 days is not enough. Don't know why I thought it would be really but, it's a start I gess and I can build from there. As with the free further training. I think I can only take this offer up after completing a dozen sets but I will check it out. Thanks again :)

Hi, I did that same course, it was the first course I did, I found like you I didn't think it was the course that I wanted, it is very basic, so since then I have done courses, with creative nails design, liquid and powder, gel, I have done courses with Eziflow liquid and powder, and the 3d design course, since then I have not looked back I feel like a proper nail tech after doing these other courses and learned a lot, I would say that at sometime do a foundation course with another nail company and you will see the difference, in the meantime carry on with what you have, till you can do the other courses, visit some nail salons and see what they are doing and using I am sure it will help, the one you are using now is tip and overlay or natural nail overlay. I hope this has helped:)

I am going to get myself booked on a gel course but am unsure if i should go for bio sculpture or a normal gel course with CND. It will be another expense before i have made any income but i feel i need to do it before i let myself loose on an unsuspecting public! Thanks for the info, it has helped to know u have been here and got through it :)

Hi, have found this very interesting reading. I myself have just completed the ETI UV acrylics nail course like yourself and can't help feeling that I may have taken the wrong path!! Can you tell me where you went from there?? I'm thinking of doing another foundation course (with CND) but finding it difficult to fit it around my current job. :D
