I trained about 10 years ago and had a Home salon. What with one thing and another I stopped and sold all my beauty stuff but kept my shellac lamp and nail bits. I’ve been doing my own nails though. I’ve recently looked on sweet squared at all the beautiful new colours and it’s giving me itchy feet to start up again.
Has anyone else not done it for years and then started again. Just love gorgeous nails.
Any advice appreciated. Although I’m fully qualified I didn’t ever do a shellac course but I’ve got a qualification in nail enhancements and manicure.
Thank you

I am very much in the same boat as you. Due to health reasons I closed my salon in 2014 and have not done a lot since. I have done my own nails and the odd friend but it has been a while. I have just enquired about doing a course with Sweet Squared to get me back up to speed. I am excited about getting back into the industry but not sure how I am going to do it. Guess I will have to start mobile for a while or find some room to work from home. Would you be looking to set up your home salon again? x

Loads of people do it! Go for it :)

I would advise you to book on a Shellac Conversion course which is REALLY reasonable priced, you'll get a full days training that will get you back up to speed on theory and the application process for CND Shellac, you really won't regret it.

Every student that has done the course with me has always been amazed at how much they pick up! It will also give you the confidence to get yourself out there again!

Wishing you the best of luck whatever you choose xox

unfortunately we live in a different property now and although it’s bigger we don’t have a spare room. Good luck with setting up again. I’d love to just rent a space somewhere and have been looking. X

I’ve just looked at the courses and can’t find one near me. I’m Hampshire/Berkshire border. Can you tell me how much it costs please? X

Yes am the same. I trained in beauty about 10 years ago and then stopped doing treatments to work in retail. Last year i decided to go back into it just specialising on nails and i am currently retraining and i decided to go mobile as it fits in with family life. Does anyone have any idea about how to put together pricing for pamper days as i have had alot of people asking for me to do pamper days but i dont know how mucb to charge them.

if you go onto sweetsquared.com it will show you prices and your nearest educator, i’m based in Ireland so my UK geography is great i’m afraid

Definitely go for it! I had a long break whilst my daughter was little (although still did my own nails and occasionally friends and family) and came back to it a couple of years ago and I'm loving it! I'd definitely recommend re-training as I noticed techniques and products have changed/improved and it will help boost your confidence too.

I'm getting back into it after 51/2 years. Its slow going, we have nss everywhere.

I'm in the same situation as you!
Fully qualified in all aspects of nails and tanning about 5 years ago. Had a successful little round of regular clients, and for one reason and another had no choice but to stop. Moved on to a completely different industry, and due to health and medical conditions, I cant carry on in that industry.
I'm now very much so in the position to start my beauty business back up again, which I am very excited about! Booked 2 nail refresher courses (although I've been doing my own and the odd family member and friend in the last 5 years.. and always thoroughly enjoyed doing them!) and other beauty courses too so this time, I can offer more than just nails. :)
If you really enjoy doing something, you'll always go back to doing it! I cant wait to see what 2018 brings for my new business venture! I plan to be doing it mobile, and hopefully being able to also offer treatments from home by the mid-end of 2018 or beginning of 2019.
Refresher courses will be great because you can learn new techniques, what clients want right now and it can also boost your confidence!

Good luck to all the geeks starting up in beauty again!
