Sometimes it makes you want to give up and not bother!

Thing that gets me is when I go abroad to places in the EU, supposedly following the same rules , I see builders up dodgy ladders in flip flops and no hats; people riding motor bikes with no shoes or helmets on and food out in the heat.

Even in various parts of our country rules and regs are not followed and nobody cares.. nns for example.

We have posts worried about our home equipment being yearly PAT tested. Should we really be bothered with doing it?

My son's school is having a fête they are not allowed a cake stall because cakes will be cooked off site ... but the sixth formers are allowed to do a BBQ how ridiculous is that?

I've never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from a fairy cake but I know of a few that have suffered after a BBQ.

It really is getting too ridiculous with some things, isn't it? When you can't have a cake stall at a school function.

What gets me are the people who flaunt the really dangerous stuff .. here in Spain I regularly see all the lorry drivers on their mobile phones when it is illegal, not to mention 99% of the rest of the population.
Another thing I see all the time are children in the front seats of cars without seat belts, on their mum's lap. Always see folks smoking at the wheel (why is that less dangerous than talking on the phone?) And you are absolutely right about the builders up ladders in flip flops (that made me laugh).

But they do have more things right than wrong here in Spain I think. They do have a healthy disregard for most rules if they don't suit them or they are just plain stupid. The Spanish are rebels like that and it is one reason I love them so much!! lol Can you imagine a fiesta without free food for all in the plaza? All of which is made off site? They just say, "up yours we're doing it anyway!"

I don't see anyone getting ill here because they let you take your dog into a café or because a Serrano ham is hanging up in the open air in a bar. Bars and restaurants can choose if they want to be smoking or non so there are both options for those who want to choose (which I think is a much more sensible arrangement).

They work to LIVE and enjoy life here ... they do not live to WORK with no time for family or properly raising children or leisure. People have freedom and are not so up tight as I see them in the UK. They are not angry or aggressive and ready for a fight with little or no provocation. I LOVE it and the 10 years I have lived here in Spain have been very happy ones. It's not perfect .. nothing is .. but it's good.

I too agree that things are mad but to have your electrical equipment PAT tested once a year is reasonable, I think. If you don't and something goes wrong you could run into difficulty with your insurance company.

My hubby is a carpenter and it has just been introduced that they have to get their tools PAT tested every 3 months - that I think is really rediculous and unnnecessary.:irked: However we agree or disagree about something, if it is law we do have to do it.

The world is going mad!

We are becoming so over the top - one of my bugbears is getting medicines from the Chemists. A few years ago my GP told me to get a mild Hydrocortisone cream for my son - the lady in the chemist refused to give it to me as it was for a child under 10 - so 5 mins later I got my Husband to go with me and pretend to buy it for himself! How ridiculous we were all together so they must have known. Another pet hate is when a spotty 18 yeard old male asks you if you have had thrush/cystitis when buying OTC remedies for these conditions when you are a 40+ year old woman! :irked:
