Hi All

Just thought I'd say Hello and introduce myself as yet another newbie (I can almost see all your eyes rolling and hear the collective sigh LOL)

I recently completed the Astech 2 day course in Macclesfield. Now I kinda gather that some of you are not exactly enamoured with this course so let me begin by assuring you that I am not planning my new career off this course alone (although my husband seems to think that I should have a full apoointment book already - men!) I did, however, find the Astech course a very good introduction (as a total newb!) and it provided some very pratical help when doing my own nails and for practice on freinds (I will stress again, that I am not working as a 'qualified tech'), the course also delivered information on H&S and contra-indications etc but I am fully aware that I have a lot to learn and much experience to gain.

With this in mind I have requested information on both the CND foundation course and the EN home study course. Now I know that both courses have thier fans and critics (believe me, I have been reading previous posts until my eyes began to bleed) so will research thoroughly before I sign up to whichever one I start with. I am concerned that the CND my be alittle more difficult for me as I have 2 jobs of which one of them is self employed, and as you working mobile techs will know, no work = no money, so taking time off (not to mention using precious holidays from my other job ) might be something that may sway me more towards the EN course. I have completed home study courses before (not in this field) with the Open Uni so know that self motivation is not an issue. Ultimately though, I will wait until I am fully informed before I start handing over my hard earned :)

I appreciate any input from those with more experience and who understand this industry more than I do (which actully wouldn't be too difficult at the moment LOL) and any further suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for reading.

A HUGE welcome to the site...hope you enjoy x

First of all welcome:)

I really do feel that having spent money on one course you would be far better off doing the Creative course now. Nails are something that really do need classroom and one to one instruction.

The Creative foundation course is 5 days spread over 6 weeks. The first 3 are consecutive but the other 2 are spread out, not a huge chunk of time to take really.

If you do the EN course, Creative will not recognise the qualification and you would not be able to convert to Creative from this without doing the foundation - so more money lost.

There are many on here that will tell you they wish had done the foundation course in the first place. You may lose some earnings now but you will get to your goal so much quicker and with better training this way.
HTH:)

Hi hun and welcome, I know nothing about the course you have taken so can't comment :) however I took an evening class with cnd because I was self employed and couldn't take the time of, I did on evening a week for 4 weeks then had the gap of 2 weeks, then the final evening. I did this at the one stop shop in Asply Guies Milton Keynes and I couldn't have done it any other way, so do ask about evening classes. I would also talk to the staff about the course you have already done because it might be that you have done enough to do a 121 conversion day. Which would target what you alone need to learn, lots of options with most of the big companies but you need to ring them and ask.
Lots of the geeks love Ezflow as well and NSI also deliver a good course, and opi to, so I would go to the web sites and get the phone details and talk to the trainers because you are not a total novice:lol:

Hello and welcome im doing an EN gel course at the moment and i love it many on here will say dont do EN but its your choice ive found it a great course and easy to fit round my life style. If you wanna know anything about it please pm me:green:

Hi, i have been doing en courses along side my city and guilds manicure and pedicure course which i do at college. I have done the acrylic, maintenace and just waiting for results of gel, just beginning my airbrush course today and i have really enjoyed doing them, but realise it's not for everyone you have to be self motivated and not give up at the first problem, you can send your nails anytime to Sarah who always puts you right and as for products every one is different in what they like to use. But on saying all this there is a lot to learn out there and on going training is essential, also reading the right books eg encylopedia of nails, nailclass and nail structure & product chemistry Carole xxx

welcome to the geek..
Im sure you will find your way.. good luck

Hi, welcome to the site, you will be hooked in no time, Im doing the Essential Nail course, and I love it, like everything it's what you make it.

But just to cut thru a few myths, you CAN get insurance, and your certificate is recognised, admittedly not by CND.

Sarah is a boon, she's always on the end of the phone, and if your stuck for time, home learn is a good way to get into the nail buisness I think

Good luck in your decision xxxx

Welcome! If you recognise that your inital course wasn't up to scratch, then you can do no better than the CND Foundation Course! Nails is a hands-on profession and needs hands-on teaching IMO. The theory can be learnt from home but there is no substitute for a good educator showing you what to do and where you are going wrong.....

The time for the Foundation Course is a worthy investment......

A big wellcome to the site hun.xxxxxxxx

Hi All

Many thanks for all your welcomes and input, it's all much appreciated. Adele - thank you for that bit of info on the CND course, I am struggling to find info on the internet and keep getting referred to the Sweet Squared website which only seems to have a summary write up on CND at the moment, although I gather that Sweet Squared have only quite recently taken over the distributorship for CND so that might be why - or, of course, I am looking in totally the wrong place LOL, feel free to point me in the right direction :green:. I am aware that Sam from Sweet Squared is involved whith this forum (owner?) so I hope he (or Samantha) jump in on this thread.

There does seem to be some definate fans of EN also so I will wait to get infomation from both companies before I make a decision, I may do both at some point but, like the rest of us, I am ruled by the bank!

I really do appreciate all of your help.

Silly me, should have said. Yes, Sweet squared are the UK distributors of Creative call 0845 210 6060 for all info - the girls are very helpful and you get Sams voice on the options:lol:

Welcome to the site hun

Cheers for that Adele. Have just given tham a ring and spoke to a Salon Geek member (Jinxx)! Is this a family business LOL. She was really helpful and is going to send me some info out in the post so cheers for that number.

Am starting to do some manicures (no enhancements) for freinds and family to get a little bit of experience and hopefully a few pennies. A few have offered to be guinea pigs for acrylics (very brave) but I will hang on until I learn a better product system to the one I have been using, before I start experimenting on people other than myself, my diploma is recognised by the Guild and does qualify me for insurance so will get some insurance before I start doing that. They may be my freinds but I bet they are still gonna sue me if I lop off an extremety!
