Hi i've noticed my mum's hair is thinning in places 'i don't know if its due to medication' as she has artheritis and osteoporosis, not sure what medication she takes as she don't really talk to us about it. Her hair is very thin, fine but not a lot of hair now 'used to' at college we use SP by wella and they have a shampoo and energy serun for hair loss pack, what do you think is this the best product on the market?
please advise as my mum is a little worried about it, and it is thinning lots, i thought for xmas i would buy her something for this. thank you:hug:

Hi, here is a thread that may be useful to your Mom  x
losing my hair

Hi and Jonathon has a lot of knowledge of hair loss and heres what he recommends for someone else who has thinning hair

Hi
Louise has given a great reply. There are so many reasons for hair loss.
One of the main causes of sudden hairloss is a thyroid imbalance (dont panick its rare!), a quick trip to your gp will rule this out. With all the colouring it could be just normal falling of hair with some breakage..this would be sorted out by some intense treatments either at home or done professionally. Joico Kpak is great for this.
If however it is the start of diffuse thinning then you would be well advised to start using a range of products like Nioxin or Rejuvx. Both of these are said to grow thicker fuller hair and remove the daily cases of hair loss like DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).
I do have a lot of experience with hairloss and its causes and would be glad to help more if you want to PM me

I've looked into this thank you. A lot of people are selling the Nioxin including salons, as for the rejuvx it is not sold anywhere but their website. I've also heard that NANO and Rogain is the best product but Rogain is more in the USA, Thank you for all your answers i will be trying nioxin for my mum, i will let you know in the future how she gets on. Thank you :green:

Hair loss products such as Nioxin and Rejuvx have been developed especially to combat thinning hai and remove the major causes of hairloss.

Hair thickness is a combination of hair diameter and hair density - people can have thin hair but a lot of it or thick hair that is relatively sparce, most people are somewhere in the middle. Your hair is made up of three layers - Cuticle, Cortex and Medulla.

The cuticle is made up of overlaid scales of keratin and the smoother the scales the more it shines. The Cortex is the body and strength of the hair and the inner layer (medulla) is not present in fine hair.

Hair growth has three stages - Growing, shedding and resting. The fact is that all hair is dead and it is the roots and scalp tissue that you need to concentrate on to prevent hairloss. Scientists have discovered that a substance called dyhydrotestosterone (DHT) can affect the blood supply to the hair. It restricts the flow of bloods and results in hair loss.

DHT is the number one cause of hairloss and hair thinning. By removing DHT on a daily basis your hair thickness will improve. Some drugs can extend the hair growth cycle, meaning that you will still continue to loose hair but it will grown longer.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because getting rid of DHT from the scalp will lengthen your hair life cycle and make hair grown longer and thicker. This is where Nioxin and Rejuvx can help, both of these hair products used daily will remove DHT from the scalp.

How do you get DHT on the scalp in the first place ?

Is it from other shampoo's ?

Hi Marlise I think that DHT is a hormone produced naturally within our bodies but sometimes it produces more of it than we want,

so when DHT is removed from the scalp it helps the hair growth by keeping the natural anagen catagen cylcle DHT free and helps to stop the hair falling out  x

Month 1. Wash your hair every other day ONLY
Month 2. Wash your hair every 3rd day
Month 3. Wash your hair every 4th day
and so on until the 6th month when you will be washing your hair only once per week .. like me ... like Mrs Geek (ever noticed how lovely and shiny her hair is?) ... the first week of the month when you change up a day is the worst then after that, your hair will come round and last until the next goal.
Now my hair is naturally shiny and it never goes greasy unless I go over the one week period.

Other good pointers are never to use very hot water, and dont massage the scalp too hard, both of which stimulate the sebacious glands that produce the sebum (oil)
Use a quality shampoo as well, you can get rebound greasiness if you strip out all the natural oils from the hair and scalp, then your scalp tries to compensate by producing more oil! Nexxus and Joico both make great shampoos for greasy hair
