I just can't do the white gel and make a smile line. I have been lucky so far that clients have wanted extensions so I use the white tips but I had a call from a lady who wanted french on her natural nails. The white gel just seems too thin and doesn't go on well. I use the edge and salon system. I've watched loads of videos on you tube and nail angel and just can't get it right.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

it could be that your application is right but the gel is just not as opaque as it could be.
make sure you are stirring the gel so that the pigment isnt sat on the bottom of the jar and its thoroughly distributed throughout the pot.

or look at a gel that has denser pigment. i use the element ultra white gel from lechat and find it gives a great result.
lechatnails.co.uk : Color Gel Element

not sure if it will help any, but have you tried applying the white with a dotting tool rather than a brush?? hth x

Thank you for your replies. I shall persevere.

That is interesting. I don't wipe of the bonder, how does the white gel stick if you wipe of the tacky bonder? Am I having a mature moment here

i thought that when i was taught this, i was very sceptical. however i was highly surprised that it worked perfectly.

It took me sooo long to be happy with my smile lines using gel. Until I started using NSI Balance 'xtreme white'. It's relatively inexpensive and has a strong pigment. Its not in there p&w range its within their colour range for some reason. I apply using a dotting tool, wait till it self levels (only takes seconds) and swipe with my brush to tidy up line. I flash cure nails individually to lock the white gel in place and fully cure at end of product application. Hope that helps

Good luck hun xx

Thank you Vicky, I was actually looking at NSI. I have been practising using the nail trainer but am still not quite there. I have tried earlier suggestions of wiping the tacky layer of bonder off and it did work better but still not convinced that the top coat of gel will adhere enough if it is being put onto clean nail and not the bonder, as that will have been wiped off.

I know. I've never wiped my gel in between layers, so understand that your apprehensive if thats not how you were trained. Lots of peeps swear by it, but if I were you, I'd just try it on a friend/family member before trying it on a client, and get their feedback. NSI have trial packs for really reasonable prices, so before you commit you can always order one and see how you get on. Once you've tried 'xtreme white', I'm positive you won't look back :D:D XX

Have you tried the 'string' (CND) way? x

I'm definately having a mature moment. I can't find xtreme white on their website.

you dip into the white gel, form a string (dangley bit lol) start at one corner, place the end of the string in the corner where u want ur smile line to start from then slowly place ur string down on the nail towards the centre of where u want ur smile line to b, dip into ur white again n do the same from the other corner to the centre until they meet n u will have ur smile line. Then fill in the 'tip' area wiv more white from ur smile line down to ur tip workin ur gel from side to side when ur happy wiv ur thickness n level cure.
I have got sum really crisp smile lines doin it this way hope it helps.

Hiya I find a dotting tool the best for applying the white and do it the sam as above string way

Ermmm....I always telephone my order. Not sure where your local NSI distributor would be, but perhaps try calling. Web shop can be a maze sometimes!! 'Stringy thing' wouldn't work with this gel. But with a dotting tool and swipe of a square flat gel brush it will be SHARP SHARP SHARP.

Let me know how you go hun xx :D

You can find Xtreme White in the Balance Colour Gel section of the NSI catalogue product 7700. I use it with a dotting tool after cleansing the tacky layer of base gel, easy peasy. x
