Hello everyone. I have a problem, Im sure it is so simple but I cant find the answer. Every so often my l and p behaves differently. When I am doing a clients nails I love the way when you apply the product it goes on like glass and when you do the sweeping across the nail it is done and you hardly need to file. The other day the application was all sticky, and also looked like there was cristilisation. I dont know if this was down to temperaure changes. When I filed the nails at the end the result was fine but I found that the application was difficult becuase of this. Why is this happeneing? If anyone could help me that would be fantastic, many thanks. Sarah xxx
 
Sounds like a temperature change to me. Was it cold in the salon? Was your liquid cold? I think that may have been the problem. HTH! :)
 
I stick my bottle of retention on the radiator while im prepping/tipping and it works better when warm. I have ran it under the hot tap when i have forgotton to do this and this also works. Or you could pop it in a cup of warm water at the begining of treatment.
I also read a trick on here from another geek that she puts her bottle of retention between her legs at the start of the treatment then its nice and warm for when she is ready to use it.
 
I dont know about the radiator trick as I would fear the liquid solidifying due to the temperature being so direct in contact with the bottle,

However I was taught by my tutor that while your putting your things out put your monomer bottle between yiour thighs to help with the temp problem. Rolling your dappen dish round in your hand to warm that up helps a little too with application.

If your still having trouble keep the thigh trick in mind and try using Moxie. Its quicker setting time means that your nails might not have time to crystalise.
Ive hurd alot of tech on here using retention + in the spring summer and moxie in the cold seasons.

The radiator , that sounds kind of dangerous to me .....or maybe I just worry to much lol...........
 
The radiator thing is what we did on our course. We worked in a beauty room cabin kind of thing out side the salon and it was snowy january time so very very cold. If you sit you retention on top of the radiator for 10 mins it will warm it ... not boil it! If your too concerned that your radiator is too high temp for this then put a towel on it first.
 
Its strange what temperature can do I had problems int he summer when it was baking hot for that dew weeks! what temperature is the ideal to work with l and p. I was wondering why temperature affects it too much? Il always one for questions me lol also does the same happen with gel xx
 
What about one of those insulated bag things that keeps food warm? Not sure what they are called like a flask lol
I don't know loads but I thought it was a volatile liquid and should be kept away from direct heat sauce's , I would imagen being warmed would speed up the evaporation process , no lid you would have a room full of vapor and with a lid a bottle full of maybe pressure?
Like I said I like to play it safe, lol
 
I'd be concerned warming it up on a radiator. It is a highly flammable liquid remember.

The answer to this is simple.

First of all what you are seeing is not crystallization as CND monomers NEVER crystallise due to cold temperature; the set time is affected by temperature, as are all chemical reactions, but CND never crystallizes which is why the nails were fine when you filed them ... if they had crystallized, the product would have just come off the nails.

What you are seeing is the result of rapid evaporation of your liquid from the bead. This can be caused by too wet a mix, by working near a fan or moving air or using a too cold monomer in a warm room. Monomer should be used at an ambient room temperature.

Loosen the cap of your monomer bottle and warm in a jug of warm water if you need to. The radiator trick is not too smart and takes much longer in any case. The thighs thing (and we've all done it) is also not really recommended either. Warm water is much the easiest, cleanest and it's done very quickly.

I have just done my homework on this and downloaded the MSDS on Retention+ liquid to find the flashpoint temp, very intresting read. :)
I have a radiator right next to my station and its so easy to just pop it on there for 10 mins while im working but think i will give the cup of warm water trick a go.
