OMG...

I come home yesterday from doing someones nails, i got out my car with our Sniff (my dog) under one arm and my bag under the other and i have either been in a funny position when i have getting out the car or my bag and our Sniff have been too heavy. He's a mini Jack Russell so i dont think its been the weight i have been carrying.

Anyway i am crippled! My lower back is killing and i have pains going right into my legs. I have had it loads of times and when eventualy get to the doc's the pain has gone so there is nothing they can do. I have Diclofenac to take one 3 times a day and Amitriptylice to take one 2hrs before i go to bed to knock me out and relax my muscels. I cant really do anything to prevent it from happening it just happens, the last time i just sneezed and i was ill for a week with the pain.

I know non of you's are doctors but i was just wondering if any of you's have had this sort of pain and if you know anything i can do to make it better or to click it back to normal.

Thanks xxx

I feel for you back pain id awful. I would advise a trip to a Chiropractor - they can 'click' things back into place...... Try and get one recommended if you can, your GP will probably know one.....

hth's

have you tried heat pads? my hubby gets back ache and he uses these heat pads and it helps....they losen your muscles they are good...hth get better soon

I have this problem and is usually caused by twisting as I am standing up (particularly when getting out of the car) The first time I was laid up for weeks
I have had no luck with any treatment and just take strong painkillers so that I don't walk all hunched or twisted and rest it as much as possible. I try to avoid the muscle relaxants I was prescribed as they tend to send me away with the fairies:zzz:
Get better soon, I know how horrible this can be:hug:

Thanks for your replies!

I am sitting with a hot water bottle on my back at the min and its helpin a bit.

I have been to a chiropractor the last time and he couldnt do anything with it been a muscle prob and not a bone prob.

I have 101 streches to do that my doc has advised but its too painfull to do them.

I only take the muscle relaxing tablets at night before i go to bed, i cant remember going to bed when i take them and my boyfriend says my crack is hilarious so i must be high as a kite off them.

Once the pain has gone from my lower back the rest of my back hurts for about a week off were i have been sitting/walking funny to prevent my lower back from hurting!!

I am only 22.... this shouldnt be happening!! You would think i was 75!!

Hey Gemma, I get this too, sometimes I can be laid up for days and Im only 26 so I know what u mean! My dad bought me the most amazing bed and this really helped. A hot water bottle and painkillers was the only relief I got til it passed. Hope u feel better soon. xxxx

Would a TENS machine not help for the pain????

Poor you ...hope it gets better soon... I think I would visit every alternative/holistic/medical practioner going...one of them should get to the root cause of it...like you say...22 is a bit young to be crippled with chronic back pain like that..xxxxxxxxxx

Oh, I feel for you big time! Just to be on the safe side, I think you should get an MRI. They show stuff that you can't "see" otherwise, and it helps a lot exactly what the problem is!

this happened to me the other week! i'm 19 and i sneezed at work, my back just 'went' i couldn't move at all and then i passed out with the pain! it took about 2 weeks for the pain to go from my legs n back :( the only thing that helped me was time :(...not much help but i understand your pain...its horrible! xx

If it's an ongoing problem then you should really be referred to the hospital to have more investigation into what is causing it. Go and nag your doctor to refer you.

You could also try having a massage, but make sure you find a reputable therapist. I have chronic back problems and find that massage and chiropractic treatment keep me moving fairly freely.

I have been refered but when i get my appointment (3 month down the line) my back is fine so they cant do anything!!!!

Isn't it ridiculous! I do feel for you as I've been in the same position.
I don't know if this would work but you could phone the department you're getting referred to and explain the situation to them maybe, they might be able to suggest some way round the system so they see you when you actually have the problem.

Poor you .... hoping you feel lots better soon.

Sending some of these for you :hug: (just gentle ones mind).

Sounds like sciatica or a slipped disc, maybe? It can be a long route to an MRI scan, but it's the only way to clarify the situation. Very debilitating and painful at worst and a condition you have to be constantly mindful of at best, as another severe bout can strike in an instant. Best bit of advice I heard was to keep changing position as much as possible, as too much of any one activity/position could make it harder to manage the pain/discomfort.

My dad has suffered similar symptoms for years, hes been checked out for everything, even kidney stones and gall stones, hes now being referred back to the hospital to another department!

It is sooo annoying, especially when the pain goes and there is nothing to look at!

I would insist that some sort of investigation be done, if you can describe the pain and where it is, surely there is something they can do to investigate it?

I would even be tempted to say the pain is there even when it isn't, just to get something done / looked at!!! :irked:

I hope you get something sorted x

p.s.....I love the fact that your little doggy is called 'Sniff' - so cute!!:green::hug:

I have took my knocky out tablets so i will be talking crap in about 15mins...

Bless you :)

I totally understand horrible back things. When I was 18, I had to have a very large spinal fusion (T2-L3) where they took my discs out, did a bone graft & put a load of titanium rods & screws in my spine.
This was to correct a double scoliosis - lateral spinal curve.
They have left me with 3 discs in my lower spine, I still get the odd grumble.

I strongly urge you to ask to be sent to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. They really know their stuff & the MRI is a fantastic bit of kit.

The pain shooting down your legs does sound like sciatica, not nice I know.
You are doing all the right things, resting up, heat pads. I used TENS & it was really good for pain relief.

Hope you get better soon.

xx

God that is horrific!!! Am glad you are OK now tho...

A few people have mentioned a TENS, am gonna pop to the chemist after work and get one.

My tablets knocked me right out last night, hence me been on here at 5am (is if i had nothing else better to do).

My back is still hurting but its more the shooting pains in my legs now.

xx

As everyone else has said push to get referred quicker. I suffered with 3 slipped discs and a trapped radial nerve last nov and still have problems now. My chiro thinks i may have permanent nerve damage in my left arm due to the fact that my doc would not refer me, the doc even said he wouldnt send me for am MRI because it costs too much and i hadn't been in pain long enough (3 months at the time of asking".

TENS is very good, i wore mine all day long over last xmas just to try and get some respite from the pain and a couple of months after getting it the pain had eased considerably.

Your back is very important, you must look after it. Please push your doc for referral. I was referred in Jan and even went as far as calling the specialists secretary to try and push my appointment further up the list, this was done and I was diagnosed with HMS. This is Hypermobility Syndrome, it means that I can slip a disc in my sleep as my joints are very slack. I have to take special meds to relax muscles and to knock me out at night sometimes when the pain is too bad.

I hope you get some relief soon. Ice packs also help as they reduce inflammation.

I to had this prob for 15 years until i bit the bullet and went to c the back man. You should not take pain killers for a bad back because when it eases the pain you feel you can do more and the wrong movement or stretch might make it worse. Also you should not have a hot bath nor puy heat pads or water bottles on them as heat makes everything swell. You should be puttin on a cold compress and go visit your local chiro man. I know its costly, i spent £120 in one week but now my back feels like it did when i was just a wee niper.
Ope u feel beta soon
