Hi All,

Happy New Year!

I wanted some ideas on how to start off as a Mobile Nail Tech.
I qualified in June 08, and have been practising on myself, family & friends.

I dont know where to start from???!!!

Where do i get insurance? Where do i buy mobile nail Equipment?
Where do i buy nail drilling machines, as i find fileing with normal files very time consuming. Do i need to do a nail drilling course? Where do i buy powders, liquids etc for Acrylic & Gel nails?

Help!!!!!!!!!:confused::confused::confused:

Hi can I ask who you trained with , What system you use, ?
If you want to buy a nail drill then I would advise you do a course on it, I wouldnt recommend just going out and working on the public without insurance and you wouldnt get one without a certificate to say you had passed a course in it.
I would have sorted out insurance already if you have been working on people tbh...x

hi,

Thanks for your reply..
I trained with a local college, and i am VCTV qualified. But mannual fileing not drilling.
Where do i find a drilling course and insurance?

I cant help with the drilling course Im afraid, I dont use them, try the search button on here.
As for insurance I use The Guild, here's there link xx Beauty Guild : Insurance Benefits

If you dont even know where to buy products from, then you cant have done many sets of nails, which leads me to think that maybe you should wait a while before you set yourself loose on the public. It will pay to have a bit more knowledge & experience behind you first.

I am exactly the same as you, i qualified when you did and through VTCT. But while doing the course our tutor told us where to get products from. What were you trained in L&P im presuming??

As suzie49 said, i wouldn't recoment that you start on the public without insurance. I had student membership with BABTAC and i now have full membership with them.

Its a really slow process and you have to be confident in what you are doing and that you are doing it right. If that is the case then good luck if not you may want to do more practice or go to a company like CND that offer courses to further your knowledge.

I suggest you buy a copy of Scratch magazine or Professional Nails, there are contacts at the back of the magazine and suppliers of product. You can purchase products from many companies - i suggest you visit Professional beauty exhibition in London 1,2,3 March and see the different companies and get some tester kits to se which products suit you best. You must have insurance before working with the public. Try BABTAC or Towergate Insurance. I think you probably need to have done at least 50 sets of nails before working with the public - that's new sets, in fills etc. I used to do training for OPI and Young Nails and although you may have a piece of paper saying you can do nails - practice does make perfect !. If you want to use an electric file then you must be properly trained, you can do a lot of damage unless you are trained to use the tools correctly. Go onto YOUNG nails web site for details of training or NSI. You can find these companies on google or the professional beauty web site o
list of distributors/exhibitors. I hope this helps

Like everyone has said even if your only working on family and friends you MUST be insured this is an absolute must hun im with professional beauty.

hiya!

I dont have products ive just been practising with my student kits that i bought in college.

hiya rosie.anstey

Thank you for all of your advice, will defiently look into it.

I am booked to go to the Professional Beauty Exhibition..

I dont really want to do another Nail tech course as i did mine for 1 year, however i would like to do a nail drilling course, if there was one available in London

hi shell28,

Thanks for the reply, i am looking into getting insurance.

hi sara evans,

Thank you for your reply..

It is really tough getting into it!! I am looking at getting the insurance, how long does it last for? Cause obviously i still have to build up my equipment etc.

I couldnt do another nail tech course, but would like to do a drilling course, any ideas if theres any around london?

You say you couldn't do another Nail Tech course. I just wondered why? Most only take 5 days and would be money well spent. Also does this mean you won't be continuing your education with further courses?

My advice to you is the same as I gave someone else a second ago, forget the efile training for now and concentrate on your application of products and hand filing techniques, then do your research, check out the different companies like CND, EzFlow, NSI etc and see which interests you most then do a course with them as they will train you how best to apply their product. HTH

The Guild can offer you £2 million of Public, Product & Treatment Liabilty cover. This costs £95 in your first year. If you would like more information, visit www.beautyguild.com, call us on 0845 2177 383 or drop me a PM.

Hi. what products did you train with at college ? sometimes its best to stick with them for a bit while you are still practising.

Honestly if you are fresh out of school I would gain some working experience first under an employer before you branch out on your own. This will also help you out by getting a clientelle built up first and allow you to buy your mobile supplies little by little rather than a huge expense all at once.

hi, naildaze

Thank you for your reply...

That is what i wanted to do, but all the salons i asked, the first question was how long does it take me to do a full set of Acrylics, i told them as im new to the trade, at least 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. As soon i said that they were not interested.

hi sara evans,

I dont want to do another course right now, as i did the nail tech course for a year, and i paid over a £1100 including kits, uniform.

I would like to ulitise the things ive learnt in the course, rather than going and doing another course. I will be doing further courses in Gel, as i did not do that system, also nail art, efileing etc.

The guild,

Thank you for your reply, will defienetly look into it.

Hi, Choc Choc

I used NSI products, when i was training, but the acrylic isnt that great, it takes ages to dry.
