Hey all ^_^ My first post so please be gentle!

In class we have to do a report on lots of different nail diseases/disorders and I'm having some problems finding information online about some of them. Some of the websites I find are very vauge or don't provide me with the sort of information I'm looking for. I need information on what causes the disease/disorder and what sort of treatment/advice you would give a client about it.

I can find some information in my 'Art and science of Beauty Therapy' book but I kinnda need to bulk it all out a bit and I don't want my report to look too much like that of the other girls in my class.

If anyone could recommend some websites that would be fantastic!

Thanks muchly :D

You're future awesome Beauty Therapist ;)

Nailclass is a great book...but it wont help you in researching nail disorders or disease!

Theres is tonnes of information...I just googled ''what causes onychomycosis'' and loads came up...have you not tried this?

oh yeah duh wrong book lol
but get it anyway lol

You would not offer any treatment for a nail disease, you would always advise them to go to their GP for diagnosis and treatment and to come back for their regular salon treatment once the nails are back in good health,
there is tonnes of info on the web hun

there is a book by doug schoon called nail structure and product chemistry it has soooo much info it will help you no end of times now and later and after you have finished colege ,it might seem expencive but it is well worth it and it is written in a way that makes it very easy to understand,

Like I said before. Everything I'm finding on the web is either too descriptive with all this medical jargon thrown about, which isn't the sort of thing I can put in this report...or really vauge like "tinea pedis is a fungal infection....tell client to seek medical advice"

At first I thought it was just me having problems but it's turns out alot of the girls in my class are also having a hard time. We would turn to books but since the girls in the other class started the report a week before us they've cleared out the college library of any books that might be useful >_< and my local library is pants for beauty books. *le sigh*

thanks to those who replied ^_^ I'm sure I'll get through it okay in the end!

TBH the www is not the best place to source info when doing college or uni work unless you know it's of a reputable source. You are best citing from journals or books. Doug schoons is really good book. Try medical journals, try skin diseases. I find the best place for books of this nature is from your hospital librarys if they have one and you have access. I have a uni card and loan mine from faculty of health. hth xxx

hi try getting a copy of The Complete Nail Technician (Amazon do cheap second hand copies) its the Nail Tech's bible! and also try the following websites:

nailsbymia.co.uk (look for "contraindications and how to handle them")
nailsolutions.co.uk
hooked-on-nails.com
allaboutnails.co.uk

I found these websites very useful for my coursework. You can copy and paste some of it and then just re-word it.

Hth!

:)

You dont have to get it from the library , but if they dont have a book most public librarys will order them in if you ask,
if you buy the book im sure you will use it time and time again, and if you dont then sell it on.
