Hey

I'm new to this site!

I'm looking for some help with nails.

I've been doing acrylic nails for 3 years now and in my new job, the last 2 people out of 3 have come back about their nails. (one said it was her fault tho) but the other one said that 2 of hers came off. As far as I'm concerned, nails don't "just come off".

I give people all the usual advice like don't immerse them in water for 24 hours to let them fully set, a bit of lift at the edges is normal, wear gloves if your working with water.

I cant control people when they walk out the door but im starting to feel that this is my fault! Do you think it is?

I'm starting to get nervous about doing nails now incase there is something wrong with the way I'm doing them. I've only had this job for 4 months and I'm worried that my boss will give me a warning or something!

I'm really just wanting to know if this is something I'm doing and get some back up from you if it isn't.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi, welcome :)

I know how you feel it knocks your confidence does it?:irked:

If you feel you have done everything correct, then It could just be those two people are rough with their nails.

Just make sure your recommending the use of oil for homecare, this can help keep the nails more flexible, preventing cracking ect.

Have you changed the products you are used to using? Plus are you trained in the products they are using in the salon?

Just keep going, I'm sure your job will be fine xx

please fill in your information page, so we know what product you use,, it can be helpful in answering your questions. thanks

Don't think you are doing anything wrong, but I would question that lifting is normal, even a little bit, it can be avoided in the majority of clients.
That's not a dig at you hun, I have no idea who you trained with, how many sets you do a day etc, it's just a general comment.
For your confidence, why not book a half day of 121 training, it's amazing what you can learn and it will confirm all the things you are doing right.

I just meant lifting after a while is normal, it can be caused by over exposure to water, chemicals, etc, thats what they told me when I trained anyway!

Starting to think I may aswell just stop doing nails altogether, bit of a confidence crisis just now.

Thanks for advice given!! I really appreciate it!

Please don't give up, you've been doing them for 3 years, it would be such a shame to stop now, have a look at all the different companies that offer more training, and all the new stuff that's coming in, it will get you excited about what you do all over again. half a day 121 is not expensive with any of the companies, it gives them a chance to show you what's new out there and as I said, you get to train with a top educator, I've done it a couple of times and have felt that they earn their money in the first 10 minutes that I'm with them.

Hiya

I enjoy doing nails and honestly thought I did them really well!! Ive never had anyone back before about it and I havn't taken a break from doing them!

I think i have just had a wee knock to my confidence and has therefore possibly affected the way I have done my most recent set hence her return! To be honest, I think nail techs are the scapegoat for when things do go wrong, even if its the customers fault!

Thanks very much for all the advice, feel free to keep it coming! I'm going to look into a refresher course 1 2 1, I think that would really help me, everything changes with nails, theres always a new product or a new way of doing it.

I will make sure I spend a bit more time on my sets, even 15 mins just to go over them if I see anything.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

Are you using the same product as you have used in the past? You say you have had this job for 4 months and you have been doing nails for 3 years so if you are now using a different product it may be that. What did you use before and what are you using now? This info will help a lot of us here to help you, as between us we have hundreds of years experience in every product made! That is what we are all here for, to support eachother and share our highs and lows. We don't give up, we pick ourselves up ask some questions, learn and go forward and stun the world with our beautiful nails!!! :)

My products havn't changed but my brush has! the liquid was kind of old aswell so that is getting replaced!

The nails were on solid when my client left, You couldn't even have picked them off if you tried! They blame me, I blame them, its a vicious circle.

I make a point of ensuring that I do my job the way I would want it done, so I take time and pride in my work so I cannot understand why they would come off, I have read other posts with similar problems to mine and I know that nails do not "just come off" after 5 days!

My boss tells me not to worry about it but I can't help it, I dnt want to get a bad reputation and I don't want my work to get a bad reputation because of me. If I thought I did something wrong I would be more than happy to admit its me that caused it but I just don't see what I did wrong.

Nail Specialists answer me this, if nails are constantly (and I mean on a daily basis) soaked in water, chemicals like bleach, do you find they last the full time with no lifting or anything? I have found that I can't even have nails on doing what I do working with Surgical spirit, water, etc without them lifting or pinging off quicker and these nails are applied by someone else!
when I have time off they last longer with no lifting or anything

Hi Lillyflower

Welcome to Salon Geek. First off I really like Susie advice for a 121 refresher, that could be really helpfull. Also I would take a look at the tutorials for preparing the nails. Not that I'm saying you are doing something wrong and it sounds like you take the utmost care in your work, but you could find a couple of hints that maybe you haven't thought about.

Here's the link http://www.salongeek.com/nail-application/3007-perfect-preparation.html and http://www.salongeek.com/nail-application/12048-perfect-preparation-prevents-poor-performance.html I hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone that gave me advice!! Ive looked up videos on youtube on applying and read all the links that everyone has given me, I am going to practise on myself now so I can see where I am going wrong. I think it could be my preparation.

Thanks so much for all the advice, especially the advice on the 1 2 1, I am going to book with NSI,

Thanks for all your help!!
