Hi Geeks,

Hopefully you's can shed some light on my issue!
I'm looking into doing a beauty specialist diploma course but I really don't want to pick the wrong one.
I know nothing about which qualifications are the best or if there is even a difference :o
I have researched online but it's all very confusing!
I'm going to post up links to the two courses I have been looking at and was wondering if you guys could give your opinion on the difference in them-if there even is one!
I'll be looking to go mobile when I'm qualified as I already do spray tanning, and probably wont be leaving the country so I guess I don't need a qualification that is recognised out of Ireland.
I don't want too fork out a lot of money if the standard of training isn't up to scratch.

These are the links : Beauty Specialist Course

Beauty Courses in Dublin & Cork, training beauty

Thanks in advance to anyone who replys with some info :)

Hmm they both look good. If you went with the first one I suggest getting that vtct registration (you may need to complete extra exams but that's fine).

The second one looks a bit more professional though.

My personal opinion would be to go view both of them, talk to them and get exactly what you want to know. See the products you would be working with (are they replenished well? Are they manky?)
Then see if you can speak to students as well see if they really do enjoy it.

You definitely need a proper qualification I.e. itec, vtct, nvq etc. I'm not sure which ones there are in Ireland specifically.

Thanks so much for your help I really want to pick the right one but am useless with stuff I know nothing about! x

Anyone else any advice? x

They are both professional qualifications and on par with each other. Some people have a preference for ITEC, but that is purely personal preference. I could be wrong here, but I believe ITEC are internationally recognised, so great if you wanted to work abroad, whereas the Beauty Specialist Diploma is only nationally recognised.

I am qualified with the VTCT Beauty Specialist Diploma and have to say I really enjoyed my training. There are a few extra things listed on your course information that I didn't cover, which is great for you.

I do agree with the other person who posted about going to visit both training centres, see what they are like and talk to them about your options. At least then you'll be able to make an inform decision.

Good luck and enjoy xxx

Do you know what the difference is between itec and vtct is?x

As far as I know vtct is an awarding body and itec is the qualification. Best to ring the schools and ask them for definite answer x

Hi,

Itec is an internationally recognised qualification as mentioned earlier and is more indepth such as facial electrical treatments that arent covered in vtct level 2 courses. Vtct is also a qualification that is recognised in Europe, but not internationally yet.

The biggest difference is itec has a final practical and written exam and this is pass or fail!!! Vtct has no final exam but many mini formative exams both practical and written that can be resat up to three times if needed, so its less pressure- examples of work are collected to create a portfolio which is assessed in place of a final exam.

I hope this helps!:D
