Right I had a trade test last night in a salon and they want my answer in the next 2 days. But honestly I don't know what I feel anymore I think I have been so depressed with it all for so long I'm terrified of making the wrong decision and I know no one can make it for me but if anyone could push me in the right direction, it's different talking to friends and family. I have put a thread about this before but now is crunch time, I have the decision between, staying self employed and going to a smaller family/ village friendly salon on a busy road opposite a school but no shops. Or back to employed starting (apparently) on £1000 a month in quite a big independent growing salon chain, with opprotunitys. I feel I may either be without sounding stupid. Out of my depth and low in confidence for the bigger salon and maybe taking a step back with the other salon. I have a lot of added stress at the moment as well as we are buying a house and money is a big issue here. The salon I am in at the moment I had to quickly move to as where I was before changed employment an was forced out quickly so I feel I am still grieving this move :( I'm really sorry if I have bored anyone but I really am a lost sole in desperate need of some help... I appreciate any help

Push your self and go for it!! You can always improve in this industry.

But you won't have the extra time you get with self employed as you'll have to stay and work all day!

I'm terrified blue! I have butterflies and feel sick. It's so hard to read my own feelings on how I felt about the salon. Don't feel like I can make a decision because of it :(

Heya, sorry ur feeling this way. Now.... What kind of environment do you like, iv noticed most salons are one or the other, do you want to see the same clients weekly or every two weeks who come for the company, where you get to know them deeply although you don't get as much wacky and out there styles to do?

Or, do you want to let your creative juices flow like a river over a waterfall but not see the clients for a month or two in between?

Personally I like the village style salon where the older generation come, and you get repeated clientele weekly so no worries about bottom line income, I also like that some of the clients can't get out as much as they would like and it feels really rewarding that you are one of the people that brighten their week.

Again it's your choice, and if you want them both as equal, do a travel cost to and from work sheet, and a estimated monthly income from both places that way you can choose on where you will get the most financial gain xoxo

Thankyou so much for your reply. This totally makes sense to me. I think I am the same as you but I do like a mix of things. And I know that the one salon won't have that weekly clientele. But I also feel like I don't want to miss out on the opportunitys there.

So scared of making the wrong decision, there is something nigling at me about this one salon. Mainly how the owner seems and staff. I'm quite a sensitive person and work well with people but like easy going x

you will probable get far more oppoutunities at the 'new growing chan' salon, and being employed too, if you go in head held high and prove to them you want to be the best you can be and will never stop learning and go forward eveyday you might just prove it to yourself too!!

the village salon sounds nice and secure, but youll be self employed? so the chances are you wont be 'invested in' and if you want to further your career oppoutunities you may have to fund it yourself and the probably wont push you, so if i were you go for the one with the most potential for your future!!

let us know what you decide and how it's going x

Yes the smaller salon is more comfortable and I know I would Really get in with them there. We were planning on doing a lot of advertising, promoting and she is a colour expert ( has her masters) and I specialise in colour. So we were going to really push that. I still feel excited about that salon it is just money that worries me what with just buying a house! X
