Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me. I recently visited a chinese 'american nail' salon, who did a gel set for me.

They used a gel that was powder based and used it with a liquid - does anyone know what this powder and liquid would be??

Anybody know where I can get it from as it was very easy to sculpt with and it is very durable.

Thanks all

Not being up to date on all systems.. i have no idea..
But i have to wonder why they wouldnt just use L&P.. as it sounds like exactly that!

are you sure it was Gel and not L&P?

did they cure it?.. interested to find this one out.

I am pretty sure that you were scammed by this salon, and it wasn't gel at all.

There is a distinct difference between 'gel' and 'liquid'.
If a large brush was used, dipped into a liquid, then dipped into a powder that created a ball at the end of the brush, and then applied to the nail: this is Acrylic and NOT UV Gel.

Many NSS scam consumers by simply writing 'gel' on the container when it is not gel at all.

While sculpting enhancements 'looks' easy, you couldn't be further from the truth. Should you search through the forums, you'll see that many geeks have troubles here and there with sculpting; whether gel or L&P acrylic.

Unless you are a trained professional, you can't get it from a professional distributor.
If you are, then see your distributor about such products.

By the way, I was fooled by such Korean nail people too. I wanted to do gel nails (it was 30% more expensive) instead of l&p. However, they told me that it was powder gel...the same situations as Missy_Emerald's.

Then in a couple of months I asked them to do acrylic nails (i.e. l&p) and it seemed to me that it was the same powder, the same liquid, the same smell, the same feel, etc...but cheaper and from a different jar :)

I agree with everyone else. It would seem you were given liquid and powder enhancements.

All enhancements are acrylic. The only difference is that one is a liquid and powder based acrylic, and one is a gel based acrylic. You cant get a gel which comes in liquid and powder form, because by definition, this would be a liquid and powder enhancement which is what most people refer to as acrylic enhancements. Enhancements are only gel enhancements if the product applied to your nail is just that: a gel!

i once used a gel system from djapp nails (holland?) with which i was taught to use an acrylic powder. (apply gel and sprinkle the powder onto it, then cure) it was really strong but the downside was, it was impervious to acetone so removal required buffing. ACK! v scary for a nail tech with adventurous clients!
i stopped using it because all my clients ended up preferring my backscratchers silk anyway.
