Good afternoon all!

I am in a little bit of a pickle and would love some advice from you lovely geeks!! :)

My little girl, who is coming up to 18 months old, has eczema on her arms and legs. I have tried e45 and oilatum, both creams and bath products, but nothing seems to make a difference. I took her to the doctor last week and he said to carry on and it will clear up....the only problem is, its spreading. Now she has little patches dotted all over her arms and legs (when it first came up it was only a couple of patches on the backs of her knees and insides of her arms)

Before I go back to the doctors I was wondering if any of you had any other suggestions of things I could try???

Any help would br greatly appreciated

xx

Ahh Bless Her.

My 3 year daughter has it, iv used oilatum, so you have beet me to it.

My opinion i would take her back to the doctors.

Take her back to the doctors. My son suffers with eczema and he has had all manner of creams, lotions, ointments and anti-biotics from the doctor. We stripped all the carpets from our house and laid wooden flooring, he was allergy tested at the hospital (which showed nothing!) and he still has it as bad as ever.

I have recently trained in Environ skincare and they have a skin gel which has apparently seen very good results with eczxema so I'm going to try it out on him and see what happens. I'm hoping for a miracle  but I can let you know how it goes.

Our daughter suffers with this, when it gets bad we use hydrocortiszone on it, and then to prevent it we use Aqueous......she washes with aqueous cream as well as uses it as a moisturiser. Oh also we always get hydrocortizone WITHOUT lanolin.....

I have an almost 3 year old (in August), when she was born, she almost instantly had eczema on her face, back and in her creases, we tried E45 and then the doctor gave us oilatum bath and cream which did help but not eradicate it, then her skin seemed to get used to it and got worse so we have Cetraben (I think its spelt) and we use this now Twice a day on her, usually once in a morning and once after her bath on a night.

However, she does suffer with 'crusty patches' which we have had no luck clearing up until she has Steroid cream. We use it lightly on her patches only and for just a week but to be honest it usually clears up within a day or two.

Now she seems to have grown out of the really bad crusty patches but we still have to keep her creamed twice a day.

Pester your doctor if you go up every week and say its not working you want more help then eventually they will get fed up of you and give you something stronger.

Other than that there is something an aromatherapist can mix up but I'm not that well educated in the oils and you would have to have a detailed consultation first.

Good luck

my son has it on the backs of his knees and inside of his arms. I have tried ALL the creams, lotions, and potions and have found that ESPA pink hair mask works best ! cleared it up very quickly x

I work in a pharmacy cetraben or doublbase would be the best out of the bunch. Have never heard of e45 to work for anyone!

My friends baby suffers with very bad eczema.she has tried several different creams from the GP with no sucsess
I bought this cream for my overexposed fingers to help with the dermetitis problem (nothing from the docs worked) and it's worked wonders for me.

We tried a small amount for a few days on a small patch of the babys skin and it seems to be working (there's a definate imrovment in the skin condition on this area)

Might be worth a try, but check with your gp first.

Are the creams you've mentioned available over the counter or would I need a prescription?? xx

Thank you all so much for your replies....i'll give your recommendations a try! xx

I have an 18month boy and he's had it since a baby, we tried many creams and waxes before finding 'the one', we tried... diprobase, doublebase, e45, oilulatum, and a wax stuff that was the best out of that bunch but i cant remember the name, it didnt clear it up that great but did better then the rest. The one i've found to be our 'miricle' cream is called Aveeno. My neighbor reccomended it after her childs success with it and it cleared it almost fully in 3 days!! Google it and you will see its worked for many others too. He still gets flare ups occasionally now when he teeths or if i run out, if it gets too bad i use a little steroid and apply lots of aveeno. His skin is the most clear its been in his little life now.
You can buy it over the counter in Boots larger stores, i dont know where else though, we get it on prescription after nagging the doctor to let us try it. Hope you get it sorted soon

Solar oil or other quality cuticle oil with tea-tree oil added.
YES, I'm serious.

One of my clients WAS using cortizone on hers... and has now tossed it.

If using solar oil or similar in such quantities is an issue, find a quality distributor of oils (this one is good, although canadian Essential Oils.Pure,Organic,Natural,Wholesale Aromatherapy Essential Oil.Carrier oils, absolutes, cosmetic bases, soap making)
and mix: Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Rice Bran, Tea-tree oil.

We all know the benefits of pure Melaleuca oil (tea-tree) so I won't bore you with why I add it.

AWESOME stuff!!!

hth's as much as it's helped my clients

Hi hun

I suffer with eczema and I have to be very careful of what soaps, bubble bath, soap powder and fabric conditioner that I use on my skin, I use Persil non bio for my clothes, dove for soap, and i use baby bath in my bath and i havent had a flare up in years.

I would recommend that you go back to the doctors and see if they will refer your daughter to a dermatologist as there could be other factors that maybe effecting her skin, I spent many days with my arms wrapped in bandages to stop me from scratching them, I now use Lucas Papaw ointment, its fab!!

I hope she gets sorted

You can buy them over the counter, just ask at the pharmacy counter. They are also available on prescription.

Hi - My son had really bad excema and tried all sorts of creams. The GP was not very helpful and in the end I took him to a Homeopathic Doctor. She diagnosed cows milk allergy and when I switched him to soya milk the change was amazing. He is nearly 6 now and can tolerate milk products but he still has soya. Perhaps this is something to think about.

Epaderm is another one that you might want to try, it works quite well on my 6 year old son.
hope it helps.x

My friend's dad has really bad eczema and the only thing that works for him is the Body Shop hemp range. I'm not sure if it would be suitable for a young child though so check first.

Hya,
One of my boys had eczema really bad from when he was about 4 months old. He is now nearly 2 and I would say I have it under control now! I have tried everything (bought and prescribed). I personally think that a hydrocortisone is best for when it is really flared up and then used to apply epaderm which is a real thick grease but it does work. It is also an emolient so you can use it to wash your childs skin aswell. I,ve used them for a quite a while and they have definately helped. I was then told about a product from America which is called Proecza. I orderd some and I have to say it was absolutely amazing! It more or less just cleared my little boys skin up in a week! It does contain a hydrocortisone which is 1% which medically is classed as very weak. But the change in him was unbelievable, all the redness, dryness and more importantly itching went. His skin was so smooth and people couldn't get over the change in him. He is a much happier little boy now. If you want any info on it, pm me and I'll give you details. Hth.
