Im really confused!!

When i go to my local nail bar and ask for gel it is in liquid & powder form.

I really want to learn, initially just to do my mates nails but then if i get any good who knows!

From my net research though it seems that if it's liquid & powder it must be acrylic which i understand is not so good for your nails & discolours?

I bought a kit to teach me the basics and it comes with a traditional gel product rather than the L&P i was expecting so now im really confused.

Is gel better for your nails? Does it come in L&P form? What is best for me to learn?

Advice greatfully received!! Thanks!!

Hello Caz

It sounds like you may have been having your nails done at what we call a "Non standard Salon" - they are often nail bars in the local high streets that do nails very cheaply. Do they use electric files and use liquid and powder from unbranded bottles?

If you have been going to a Non standard salon, it is likely that they have been putting acrylic on your nails but just a uv gel topcoat. This is why they use liquid and powder, but call it gel.

There are pros and cons to both acrylics and gels. The main thing is that you should try to do a proper training course if you want to learn how to do nails properly. You mention you have bought a gel nails kit - is it the Rio one from Argos? If so, you should be aware that the products in it are quite poor quality and may not last long.

If you would like information on where to train properly, do please ask and I'm sure plenty of people will help you.

Helen.

Hiya ! first off l&p do not damage nails the person doing them does !! this is why training should be a priority even if you are only doing them on youself !
And if you have a look at Bevs album you will see a perfect example of a great nail tech !
Also a high brand l&p will not discolour !
Get some training honey then you will learn all
Good luck x

Hi hun, really Proper training is the way to go, even if it is only to play on your own, or friends nails,
There is sooooo much involved in the industry....

We could answer all of your questions now, but you would have a million more by the time we had finished...

Training will help you to understand fully the beginings of nail technology....most of it then falls into place and the learning becomes easier....
And will prevent any chemical mishaps happening too I should add !

Here is an excellent article on choosing training x
