Can any lovely nails geeks help me?

I'm having such a problem with my nails just now. They are really soft and keep breaking. They don't seem to be growing much at all and even when they do a wee bit, they just snap.:(

They have never been in very good shape as up until I was 13 I had very bad eczema and the steroid creams and such that I had to use apparently had ill effects on them. They are all ridges and bumpy, not very nice. One time one actually fell right off, never bumped it or anything. Don't know if that's got anything to do with the steroids though.

Does anyone know if there are any vitamins I can take that'll strengthen them or anything else I can try?

Thanks xx

do they 'snap' at the corner?
or do they tear apart and bend, effectively shredding the end off?

Bit of both i think. They always snap in the middle aswell so there's no saving them.:(

snapping in the middle is a sign of a soft nail - I would suggest CND toughen up (a nail polish base coat) that will help toughen the surface layers making them less likely to bend and tear
As it is a base coat you will need to apply polish and top coat - if you don't want colour then just apply the top coat.

combine this with solar oil and it will help to maintain them to as good a condition as anything else!

Alternatively head along to a reputable salon and they will be able to offer a more protective treatment such as shellac that will protect and nurture the nail with a strong coating...

hope that helps

Great advice from Envy (as usual )

Your nails do grow, but because they are so soft, you will find they will wear down as you use them (a bit like a pencil would)

If you wear a hardener or Shellac, your nail will be protected and therefore will not wear down and you'll have length in them in no time.

you can buy vitamins from superdrug skin hair and nails tablets 30 for £4.99, people who i know that have used them said they work ! but im sure you will need a few professional manicures as well !

I have really bendy weak nails, I've tried everything and nothing has helped mine. I always have gel overlays on mine and I can grow them beautifully and they are very strong :0)
I even find they are pretty strong with soak off gel over my natural nails too xx

lots of us have weal bendy nails hun (myself included) and we just need a little added strength! I have used bio sculpture gel and have recently tried shellac both with great results (i actually have to cut my nails down regularly now) which is great advertisement for my clients.

the ridges could be down to dehydration mixed with age...have you ever bitten your nails? this is generally the cause of bumps and ridges

There is nothing you can put in your mouth that will 'fix' nails... You will know when they discover how to create a supplement that alters protein production ...
It will be front page news on every newspaper...

Ridges and bumps are usually nothing more than a reflection of the 'flow' of the nail plate over the nail bed - this can happen to anyone at any age.

As the plate growth slows with age the flow also slows and will exaggerate the rails and grooves of the bed

i just find that it is either more exaggerated as we get older or that we notice it more xx

thanks for all ur replies guys!:)

i've always had the grooves and ridges in my nails since i was a wee lassie, my mum once asked the doctor about it and he said it could be down to all the steroid creams and stuff that i had to have plastered everywhere. my skin is really thin aswell, its almost transparent and papery!attractive eh?!haha!

think am gonna try shellac, was just looking at some results from it,looks good.

thanks again :)

xx
