I'm a newly trained bio tech, and am practicing hard for my assessment. The problem I had today was that once I'd sealed the S-Gel for 4 minutes and then wiped with dual cleanser some of the colour came off. I then buffed off the s-gel and reapplied the colour cured for 2 minutes and then reapplied the s-gel again curing for 4 minutes. It again rubbed off, although only a little but enough for me to notice. This only happened on one nail (I was doing my toes, and it was the big toe). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I then applied top coat, as I noticed the colour was dull, but that doesn't normally happen when I practise on my nail trainer.

Also I'm a bit confused with the prep. I do the usual prep of sanitising, filing, removing cuticle and then dual cleansing, but do I have to buff the nail before applying the clear gel like with L&P, and do I have to buff the clear gel everytime, or is only when nails need it, ie with ridges.

I think I'll probably need to beg an essex bio geek to do my nails so I can see how its done again.

Hello, I am pretty new to Biosculpture too (assessment in August). I don't know if I will be of much help, but here goes:

1) I read somewhere that failure to get a shine on S Gel can be due to not using enough Dual Cleanser when wiping it after curing. Otherwise, all I can think is that maybe you put the S Gel on more thickly on that finger than on the others, and therefore it hadn't quite cured as well as the others. While I can understand your frustration, if it was only 1 finger and all the others were ok, I wouldn't worry about it - I've occasionally had "odd" things happen on one finger and have found that they seldom repeat themselves.

2) Re the prep: No you don't need to buff the natural nail before you put clear gel on it, assuming you are just doing an overlay on a natural nail, and you don't need to buff it before applying colour gel over the top. You CAN buff S Gel or Sealer Gel after finishing an overlay if you really need to (ie: if you spot a dent at the last minute or something) but if you do this you need to apply Top Coat to seal the gel again.

I hope this helps - feel free to add me as a friend if you want and if I can be of any more help.

Helen.

Hiya,
Ive been doing Bio now for year and half and when doing my training, our trainer said to us that you shouldnt use S-gel on toes as they are stronger than finger nails, and that you should use the sealer gel. When you went on your training day was your UV lamp working ok? because there are a few reasons why the gel could be wiping off, one of them being your lights in the lamp might not be working 100%.
When i do my prep i file, shape, do cuticles, do the executive base, then buff the nail and sanitising when needing to,making sure that the nail plate is dust and grease free then apply the clear gel, when that is cured there is no need to sanitise or to buff on that as you place the colour on. From applying the first coat of gel to the very last being s-gel or sealer after thats cured thats when you will wipe the nail plate.
i hope ive answered your questions and that it has helped. Keep us posted.

Like Bella-nails I do not use S Gel on toes. Also I never have colour come off unless I sanitize before I have cured clear overtop. I could only agree that your lamp must be off. As for the dull colour, that seems to be characteristic of S Gel. I find if I apply it thicker than their other gels, I get a better result.

Yes, you'll need to gently buff the nail before you start application.

I shape and refine before applying my last sealer coat.

hths!

Thanks so much. I'm hoping it is not my lamp as it is brand new, I can only imagine I did not apply enough s-gel. I am having fun with the gel, and hope I pass. I suppose its all practice practice practice. xx

Good luck, you will be ok.
AND...Relax when your doing your assessment, it helps. Let us know how you get on.

I certainly will. Thanks so much for all your help.
