I'm looking to maybe start a beauty course and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice? I'm 22 so would have to pay for any courses I do and I work full time (40 hours a week) so would struggle to go to college or anything. Are at home courses any good or is it always better to go to a college? Any advice would be great as I really want to try and get started as soon as! Thank you!!

I done a at home course and I found it good but it's also very hard because you cannot get the advice off of a tutor

I think most people will recommend training with a tutor.

Firstly, what is your aim?
Mobile/ Self employed/ employed?

If you are looking to be employed in a salon you will need NVQ1 & 2 & preferably level 3.

Do you want to specialise in certain aspects? Like nails, or just the whole lot of beauty?

:)

As you will be a mature student, you will most likely start at level 2. Level 1 is usually for school leavers. Do a google search for beauty schools in your area and check which qualifications they offer and who they are accredited by.

You will need a national level 2 & 3 qualification to work in salons/spas but as these are usually 2 days a week, plus home study it's not really suited to you. Unless you feel you have the time & energy to fit it in.

I'd suggest doing short courses and getting the basics done as and when you can. Doing level 2 specific courses might fit in with your work week better.

The beauty school/adacemy will be able to advise you. But shop around!
