I passed my gel nail tech course at the start of January and all the gel extensions I have done so far have been great and all my customers have been happy, but for some weird reason my natural gel overlay wont last more then 3 days! I have had to refund 3 clients so far and can not work out where I am going wrong :irked:

I prepare the nail and lightly buff, use dream gels bonder and set under the lamp then apply one coat of salon systems gel and set then a second coat of gel.

Maybe the bonder Im using isn't right? Im sure I am preparing the nail correctly.

Any advise will be really appreciated! Thankyou.

this often happens when not using tips because the free edge of the natural nail is more flexible than the gel.

theres a few things you can try.

1 .change to using a soak off gel which is more flexible for natural nails.

2. build the stress area more so the gel isnt able to move around so much and separate.

3. pay more attention to capping the nail on the edge so that the gel is wrapped right around the free edge.

4. use a form under the nail and when you apply your gel bring it on to the form a little so it will enclose the free edge. remove the form and file lightly to correct the free edge shape but ensure that you dont file all the way back to the free edge. then carry on your application as normal.

I agree with angel, the biggest issue I ever had with NN overlays is the free edge chipping or coming unattached. Make sure it`s the shape you want it first and then really make sure to cap the free edge and do not break the seal (don`t file the free edge shape again), this has helped for me. However, in truth some people pick like crazy or use their fingers for absolutely everything (I`m one of them! - doesn`t matter how skillfully I apply, I usually break the seal on my NN overlay -I`m into alot of sports and have too many hobbies that are terrible for nails). When I got my nails done, I was always honest and had no problem with service breakdown`s because I knew they were my fault but unfortunately not everyone will tell you the truth or even know that their doing it.
