For the last year or so I had L&P over my natural nails. I am a trained beautician and nail technician and do my own nails.
A few months ago I noticed thickening under my nail plate, thought nothing of it at the time.
it started bothering me so i thought i would take the overlay off to let my natural nails breathe. My nails had grown long underneath but I have to cut them short because my nails are blendy so can never keep natural long nails.
i could hardly cut my nails because the hyponchium was getting in the way and is sore if I touch it.
Ive read a few posts on here about hyponchiums but I wanted to know if there was a way to elimate the thickening. it bothers me because it looks really unsightly and if future clients see the state of my own nails im sure they will have no faith in me to do theirs.
i do use hand cream and have being using solor oil but i still have the problem, it is mainly on my index and middle fingers.

is there a way to get rid if this build up because i am so embarassed so show my hands! i dont want to live with it forever. i never used to have this problem, im only 27 so cant be because of old age.

i tried adding a photo to show you but i cant seem to re size it. i could always email it if someone wanted to have a look

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Tina:cry:

Use some Cuticle Eraser with your Solar Oil, it helps micro-exfoliate and the hyponychium should become less obtrusive :)

Can I just correct you here hun nails do not breath they are not living organs.

This is also what I would advise you to do

i could hardly cut my nails because the hyponchium was getting in the way and is sore if I touch it.

Without having seen the picture as yet, if the skin is actually stretching forward with the nail plate and is sore to touch then this may be a condition called ptyrgium (a wing like growth of skin)

In some cases the hyponychium becomes fused to the underside of the nail plate and is pulled forward. Most likely cause of this is heat - the sort that comes from cutting the whites off with a drill ...

Again, the photo should shed more light..

sorry, i know nails cant breathe!

envy, ive sent you an email with a photo, hope its clear enough for you, if not let me know and i will try send another one

thanks
