ive been asked a few times now about dying extensions.

most asked for a full colour dye which i idnt think would be good so i said theyd be better off jus booking in and getting new hair.

but someone else has said about highlights. has anyone doe this how did it come out?

thanks in advance. :)

They use vastly different dye processes on cut hair. I would never attempt to dye, or bleach hair ext. better to add some blonde ext in to acheive a highlight effect.

thanks i did sat that about dying it all as that was more risky of it going it wrong.
but i thought id check about the highlights

they all say 'oh well such. and such said i could dye it when i bought it'

i rather say no then hear complaints tbh.

I have had some highlights put through the front of my extension hair before and it was fine. The only thing I noticed is that my own hair lifted differently but as I was putting a couple of colours through it didnt matter as much.

The current lot of ext hair that I have in has lighter sections of hair put in so I havent touched the colour at all this time.

so basically the colour was slightly different in your own hair and the extensions?

Yes - it lifted quicker on my own hair - the extension hair didnt lift quite as much so the highlights in my own hair were slightly lighter.

It really depends what hair you are using.
Hair extensions are fine to colour OFF the head.
You should only colour 1-2 depths darker and use a no stronger than 6% peroxide
Hair extensions are not designed to be lightened. Doing so will not only ruin the hair but potentally destroy it. The reason for this is because when the hair is being treated to be used as human hair ext it is lightened then coloured using a chemical process.
If wanting to achieve a highlighted look on wefts buy the lightest shade then just foil with contrasting colours.

When colouring the hair you only need to process the hair for half the normal development time. Colour normally holds for longer on ext. and normally comes out to the exact swatch colour.

Hope this helps!

i think she already has it in.
i spoke to her and she explained colour might not come our right and she said she'd still try.

but if there is a higher chnace if it being wrong i wont be doing it as not worth the hassle

I don't blame you! If you colour her hair and/or the ext. whilst in the hair she will more than likely lose the ext. The conditioners in colour will disolve the bonds. She will then blame you!
