hi ya, ive been massaging for years and recently done the hot stone course done a few now but find im getting in muddle with my stones, as im putting them back and then not knowing which ones ive just used if you know what i mean, such a beautiful treatment havent had any complaints only happy clients but inside i feel im in muddle any advice would be appreciated hunsxx

i would lay all the stones i will be using out on a towel just before the treatment is about to start. also put a towel in the sink and pop the used ones in there as u go along ready to be washed after the treatment. hth x

I tend to place them at one end of the heater & as I use them place them back at the other end of the heater, so I know which one's I've used & which used ones have been in the heater long enough to reheat.

this is my system too, once they are used they are straight in the sink for washing.

If your sink isn;t nearby a plastic bowl would do.

good luck xxx

the towel stops that horible clanky noise i cant stand it soo off puting

I lay my stones in the tank in order that i use them, and i work around the tank in a clockwise direction, the ones that come later in the massage sequence, i place in little drawstring bags e.g all the cosy toes together or the 4 for front of legs together, i then place these in the tank as i make space. Once i've used the stones they go into a basin which is under the bed with a towel in it to stop the clingking noise. Hope this makes sense. I also found it was quite hard to see the dark stones in the tank when the lights are dim, so i got a little clip on light which shines directly into the tank it's so much easier.

Some good points made already but I have 2 systems.

System 1:
as Martin said, have all of your stones placed in and remove in a clockwise direction, ie start at 12 o'clock and remove from that point, any you then replace to reheat get put in at 12 oclock to rewarm.

System 2:
I sometimes put stones in the mesh bags, I remove bag one to do the back, I have a bag for leg 1 and leg 2, cosy toes and face. Any that then get put back in to reheat will be put in loose, so that you know they are reheating.

Hi Raya,

Where abouts did you do your hot stone training?
Would you recommend the collage?
How many stones do you use in your massage routine?
what size heater have you got?

Sorry for all the questions:irked: I am looking into doing the course soon and am in Essex too.

hi emma, sorry not been on for a while, i done my hot stone massage course at the pheonix school of health and beauty, chelmsford, essex. (very good course) i definately would recommend the college have done alot of training over the years there and a few post graduate courses look on there website.
I do alot of massage and am still getting used to stones to be honest, so kinda using around 4 to 6 for the back as they feel so good when they are at there hottest.
i brought a small heater (big mistake) brought it before the course and i personnally think you need a larger one, easier you can lay all your stones out, see more what you are doing and use a lot more stones! hope this helps always here xx (where in essex dya live hun)xx

Hi Raya,
I am so confused with what collage and what kit to go with - there are too many out there!
I live in Barking & work in East London, my sister lives in Chelmsford so thats not that far!

How many hot stones do you use in your massages?
How many stones have you got in your kit?

I use in around 65 stones for a full body massage, i never just stick used stones back into my tank as they have already used their energy and played their part in the massage, you need to clean and let your stones re-energise before reuse! I never do any job halfheartedly! I have a kit of 65 which does the job perfectly. I have a 6qt heater and use drawstring bags (like the other geeks just work in a clockwise position) and pop my used stones into a large plastic bowl lined with a towel which is situated on my 2nd shelf! Good luck with your hot stone massage course, and try and get as passionate a tutor as possible! You dont want someone just teaching this as a sideline for a bit of extra bob!

Depends on why you're using the stones. I'm not really bothered about any "energies" a stone might or might not have, I use them purely for the transfer of heat & for the firmness they lend to the massage. For that reason, although I have 60 odd stones, I never use anywhere near that amount, tending to use the same few favoured stones & keep returning them to the pot to reheat.

Thanks for those comments Christine & Martin, every therapist seems to use different amount of stones, different size heaters etc.
It gets so confusing as to know what is best to buy when starting off.
I dont want to get the smaller heater, then build up a collection of stones and not be able to heat them all :irked:
