Hi geeks, just a question regarding hot stone massage. During my training we learned to ly the client on top of placement stones along the sides of the spine. But on alot of clients they complain of a sore back afterwards.. Now when i was training i too found that by back hurt afterwards but put it down to already having a bad back! What is your protocol for the massage? and do any of you ever get complaints?! Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I did the ITEC hot stone therapy training, which doesn't include laying the client onto the stones. At first I was a bit surprised as this is what I had seen in my LaStone book and assumed it was part of the training. Having thought about it though, my feelings are that it must be very awkward to get the stones in the right layout and if the client moves, even if only a little bit surely you must end up with stones digging in somewhere? I was taught to start with the client facing down and using large placement stones on their Chakra's, so the back is warmed up before I start with hand held stones anyway.
I'll be interested to hear how others get on with it.

The only time I have ever done this is in my training. To be honest I couldnt think of anything more uncomfortable.
I start with my client on her front, lay the stones on her back and start on back of legs. Maybe the way they teach you would be good for a bigger client but i'm happy not doing it this way xxx

thanks girls, i think I'll just stop putting down placement stones then.. it certainly seems that almost everyone complains about a sore back afterwards.. and after-all, most people are actually in to try and help a bad back! what is your whole routine?(basically) my routine is to lay client down on the stones and start off with energy connection placing chakra stones, legs, refloxology with trigger stone, arms, face and shoulders, turn client over, do energy connection placing stones, do back of legs and then finish with back
