Hey ladies thank you for all the advice on my previous thread. Now i have another dilema, i saw a few properties today and all of them have really good potential once ive done it up. As this is my first salon im not sure how big to get th eproperty in terms of square feet. The one that i really liked was nice and small, for starting up but it was opposite a hair and beauty salon. Im not sure whether this is a gud idea even though i really liked the property. I dont want to be stepping on anyone toes and obviously the competition would be a factor which i would overcome by offering different things. Any advice would be appreciated.

My salon is tiny,
it is the size of a living room but has very a high ceiling so seems bigger,
i do loads of different treatments in there,
i have a bit of the room sectioned off with a vertical sunbed in there and room to get undressed,
a big electric treatment couch and step,
one treatment trolley (desperate for another one as this is jam packed)
one nail desk, & two chairs,
one reception bar thingy lol,
one 2 seat sofa,
and loads of stock,
its quite surprising what you can fit into a small area, you just need to plan it all carefully,
the only thing that does bother me is that when i get fed up i cant rearrange the furniture as it works so well where it is all placed,
i have a hairdressers next door but one to me who has beauticians and they do allsorts to try and compete like an A board outside advertising tans for £10
i charge £25 and refuse to join in with their games, i just ignore them and let them charge silly prices,
they can work harder while i work smarter and charge more,
and i have not lost 1 spray tan client to them and they have done this offer since the start of summer, hth

Mine too is tiny (take a look at my website to see pictures of it) but I have everything very neat and tidy in it, and I have white walls and ceiling so it appears bigger than it is. If you're short of space choose your colours carefully and be clever with your storage.

Your room is lovely, i have a nail desk like yours but in beech affect, i didnt realise you could get glass ones :irked:. At the moment my room is tiny, its meant to be a office but i stole it off partner, it has my desk, cabinet, two shelves. As i have only just started by myself ive kept it plain and simple x im moving next week so ill have a bigger room which will also be our dinning room x

oooo thanks for the compliment!
I had very set ideas about how I wanted it to look (that's not like you I hear you cry!)
:)

I have a couple of pics on my website too.

I mainly work from one room, but also have a small bathroom and waiting area. its plenty big enough. i have no idea how many sq foot it is though!!

Hi I too have a small working area - I think as long as you are not too tight and can manage to carry out the treatments you want comfortably then I do not see a problem. It is how you plan and decorate it that makes it welcoming. I often get nice comments about my room as I also work from home. Ideally I would love a little reception but I will have to wait until the next house!

Kate where did you get your waxed bear from in your gallery,
he is fantastic

My salon is quite big, which I like because I like things spaced out and everything to have it's place. I painted it bright colours aswell which makes it look even bigger, pics are in my profile

The only time I wish I have a smaller salon is on cold days like today, as I've had to carry my little portable heater round with me otherwise it costs a bomb to heat up the whole place!! lol

HTHs xx

My salon is small too. As it's on a corner, it's also a wierd wedge shape. I've got 3 windows and a door to the front, but it narrows to about 5 feet in the toilet at the back. However, I've got a great opportunity for retail displays (great fun at Christmas etc) but I could do with a bit more room through the back (where the graft goes on). I also took a chunk off the treatment room to fit in a large shower which I do all my tanning in.
I love my salon, but I guess that no matter how big it was, I would still be looking for extra room for storage. It has to be kept tidy as, one thing out of place and it looks like a bombsite:eek:.
