I went to a professional nail salon in Manchester (well known salon brand not the ones that pop up everywhere) to get an enhancement put on one nail as it was broken and I wanted them looking nice for a friend's party.

Anyway, I went in and prepared to pay £8 for one acrylic overlay, all good so far...

I got there for my appointment, she left me waiting 10 minutes while she re-booked a 'regular' client and had a chat with her. She then pushed back my cuticles with an orange stick ( it was tipped with something but it fell off so it was bare orange stick when she pushed them back) subsequently my cuticle started bleeding. It didn't stop for 15 minutes. She put nail varnish remover into the open sore... then because it didn't stop she got out the NAIL GLUE and filled the newly made hole with the glue.

Afterwards, she put a tip on (wrong shape, and wrong size.. it was too tight) and blended it. Then sent me away with a bill of £13 for the blended tip, which she called 'Temporary Enhancements' and some cuticle oil pen.

She did no client consultation, fobbed me off saying she was the professional and I didnt know what I was talking about because she didn't damage my cuticle, I did it myself apparently by 'ripping' a fibreglass enhancement off.... which I have never done... ever!

I nearly cried, it still hurts now and the tip of my finger has only just regained feeling. I cut the tip off as soon as I could.

Heres some pics of the damage:

Any suggestion on treatment to avoid futher damage or infection?

I have been just smothering it in cuticle oil and keeping it clean......

sorry this is a long rant.

OMG!! That looks so sore... scarey that people can cause so much trauma. I can't believe she glued the cut. I'm not even doing my course yet but even I know that sounds a bit dodgy. I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

I have applied resin to a nick I have done with a abrasive before now,
Its a surgical grade resin,
as far as I am aware plenty of geeks do the same...
As long as you don't touch the cut and let the resin just drop ..
BUT I have NEVER done anything this bad to anybody.

The treatment you recieved is totally shocking and I am discusted...
But I do have to say..why oh WHY did you let this woman carry on hun...
This must have hurt like hell...

There is no way on this planet I would have sat and let somebody do this to me,...Whether I offended them or not,
I'd have stopped her in her tracks and
had a bloomin good word with the manager...

this thread contains some useful information on different types of adhesives etc...

Just a little more info I found originally written by Gigi...
I know the thread isnt about adhesives, but thought i'd point this out anyway xxx

Methylcynoacrylate adhesives, such as super glue and lock-tight etc, are industrial adhesives which are unrefined, attract moisture and break down in water, are carcinogenic, they yellow, and are not intended for use on either the human body or on porous surfaces. Take all that into consideration and you have an adhesive that is totally unsuitable for using in the nail industry or for 'nails-at-home DIY'.

Ethylcynoacrylate adhesives, such as hospital grade/pharmaceutical grade adhesives used by dentists and nail technicians etc, were developed to be used on the human body and porous surfaces. They are highly refined, far more stable in a moist environment, non-carcinogenic and non-yellowing. And of course they are more expensive! All Creative adhesives are pharmaceutical grade resins.

I was caught with a brand new file once and the tech applied resin to it, I have to admit if I get a bad paper cut now I do it too.

That does sound like the appointment from hell, if I had been you I would have walked away

I told her to stop but she just carried on with it, and afterwards it hurt like hell. I didn't realise she was putting glue in the cuticle until she'd glued the tip on and it was running down the side of my finger and then the pain kicked in. I thought as I had to pay for it, she may aswell blend it so i could at least paint it (to look OK for the party) as she'd already done the damage.... oh and I think SHE was the manager, as she had a different colour tunic to everyone else and was giving out orders  I will check out that thread thanks

I just found out via their online shop she sold me cuticle oil for: NEW lotus blue cuticle oil pen for hard to grow nails

Instead of: Vitamin E Purple Pen for dry damaged nails

I really do feel bad for you, and I know you told her to stop... ( did you whisper it to her, or was she hard of hearing??)

I would of got right up off the chair and marched out!!

i think i would have SCREAMED stop along with WTF ARE YOU DOING TO ME?? lol --- nail tech student or not, but thats just me.:green:

I also would of got up and screamed (what have you done) theres no way im paying for you to make me bleed ,and walked off. That must of hurk like hell, hope it gets better soon hun.xx

I agree I would have got up and walked out. I am still training but I have not damaged anyone yet, I have caught the cuticle without making it bleed and I feel so bad when I do, Did she not say anything to you at all. I hope it doesn't hurt to much and it gets better soon.

I think many of us are guilty of nicking a client with a file, but this takes the mickey....its a full on cut,..
Did she go over that same area again and again ???

I'd keep a very close eye on it now just to make sure no infection begins x

ohhh that's annoying, pay with all that pain....!!! i wouldn't pay her or complain about the treatment but def not walking away with out saying any thing...hope it will be better hun...xxxx

I would go straight to the doctors if it sore and puffy the reason I say this is because I have had a skin infection just a little insect bite that got infected and my mum had the same with a dog bight if the skin is sore especialy if there is a red ring around the wound then get straight to your gp. It looks real nasty hope your ok :hug:xxx

I think you should take this further, this woman is a danger to clients and her attitude is more scary than her treatment.

If she cut you and was genuinly sorry and felt awful you could maybe understand she had made a big ****oo but the fact she practically held you hostage and butchered your nail is beyond me.

The power has gone to her head and has stopped her caring about her work, good job you got some photos of the evidence. Im not sure who you would need to speak to but maybe the council has some authority over health and safety matters in salons.

£13 for one nail? thats daylight roberry get your money back asap!

how are things today hun??

Sympathies goin out to ya hun!

I know where you are talkin about, and I cant say i'm suprised!

That said, theres good and bad in all.

I would of yelled and gotten up and scream at her *you witch never touch my fingers again* and leave.

I knew for glue. the ones we use are medical ones so I know you can do that. I used to do it on my fingers because if it's me it doesn't matter, but I would NEVER do that on a client nail. nor would I do the whole process you went throu.

I feel bad for you anyway

Having looked at the pictures you posted.

Why did you end up with a French white when your others are natural tips?

Why if she thought your cuticle was damaged already by your old enhancement being 'ripped off' did she not take extra care!

and lastly why on earth did you stay and pay?

I hope you enjoyed the party you wanted to look nice for

i agree, i would take this futher. make sure you get to the docs whilst it is still like it is now, so you have proof. It looks so sore, and for a pro to do this, as we all know, isn't right. She needs to know what she has done, and if she is the manager, there will probably still be someone else higher than her so get on that phone and demand your money back! You all know I have had a client recently demanding a refund, but I had done nothing wrong for that to happen, this 'tech' has so you should stand up for your right!!!
phew

 You poor thing. That looks really sore.

I know I should have got up and left, but as the party was mainly nail techs I felt I should have nice nails and thought the bleeding would stop (as I have DVT).

I made the wrong decision but she still shouldn't have made that much of a mess. She blamed me for the damage even though I know for a fact she did it. The £13 was £3 for the blended tip and £10 for the cuticle oil, which has been pretty good actually.

I picked most of the nail glue out and put loads of cuticle oil on it, and cleaned it with antibacterial hand wash and most of the blood and mess has gone, the half of my nail pate closest to where a free edge would be is a cloudy white.. does this mean infection or its going to lift? All round the edges are dry and 'crusty' what should I use to soften them?

I am writing to head office of the salon and I am going to send photographs - the ones I posted here and just hope they acknowledge it. If not I will put it down to a bad experience and never let anyone touch my nails again.

Oh, and why one is french and the others are normal is because the others are my natural nails x
