On Sunday i did my sisters nails for the 1st time. i have got so much better from when i did my 1st set. I was happy with the results although there were a few things that i would change if i did her nails again and wil remember for my next client.
Last Tuesday i did my 1st 'proper' client who i didnt know and i was really nervous but again did an ok job.
However both were really surprised by the set i did. My sister admited she had been putting off having them done as she didnt think they would look as good as they did but had seen our other sisters and thought they looked nice so would let me do hers, and after doing my clients she commented that she felt she should have paid more than she did.
I am finding it hard to find clients they all seem to want it done but are putting it off with really bad excuses...

Am i charging too little could this be putting people off? My price list states 15.00 but i did an 'introductory offer' of only 10.00 till the 18th of this month as that is when my exam is and i thought that people wouldnt mind having their nails done for that price.
Its starting to annoy me and i took a bit of offence over what my sister said(obviously just laughed it off infront of her) my boyfriend says i should take it as a compliment.
So how do i get more clients if they dont trust me? Did it change for you once you had passed your exam??
Any thoughts or advice would be great:confused:

Maybe the signals you are giving out are showing a lack of confidence?

Clients' trust has to be built over time .. you don't get it automatically.

I don't think anyone expects perfection at the early stage you are at but neither (if you are confident in your work) should you be showing a lack of faith in yourself by charging next to nothing if you feel your work is worth more.

An exam pass is not what will make your nail skills stand out to a client and that is what your clients are paying for.

If you truly think you are worth it then start charging. As long as you are going in so cheap, You are saying, "I'm not worth any more than this." But you had better be able to deliver the goods if you are charging more.

I think I charged 20.00 from day one.....then after I gained my certificate I charged 25.00 for the first month .... new room in salon....

Then straight to 34.00 where they have stayed..HTH's

I thought the £15 was too cheap let alone £10! Thats like an introductory offer on top of another introductory offer!

Personally I think its best to decide on the price list you would realistically like to achieve once you have gained more experience and eliminated many of the problems we all have when starting out....decide on that and then offer an introductory % off for a limited time....this gives you time to practice and improve and gain clients while covering your costs and without looking cheap.

To put in my two penneth worth.....

I think if you take a look at your thread header....throw it away.....and rephrase it....

How do I get future clients to realise how GREAT I am.....

it automatically instills confidence in both yourself and those future clients....get rid of negative words and replace them with positive words....

You have to act confident...have faith in your work....promote yourself for what you are worth.

Maybe you are at the beginning of your journey.....but clients ( and sister! ) shouldn't be surprised at your work....they should have expected it to be great in the first place.....because you are out there telling them how great you are

But like Geeg says...make sure you follow it up with the results....

Good luck with those future clients and be confident xxxxx

wow , those words really do ring true!! guess seeing it in black and white makes me realise!!
I have struggled with a lack of confidence for a while and doing nails has started to bring myself back out. i was like it when learning to drive too, i didnt even put in for my exam even though i had loads of lessons, but i have promised myself to finish this and if i can do this then i have no reason not to pass my driving test.
My boyfriend and friend think alot more of what i can do than i do. guess i need to have a think nd find some positivity...

i understand that if i say i can do it then i have to perform, thats the scary bit but i know i am good with cusomers and have been told that time over with previous employers and i always put my all into my work,
i will not let my clients down !!! even if it take me all night i will not let them walk out with bad nails!

Off to give my biz plan some thought and find some positivity, thankyou!:wink2:
