Hi all, I applied Minx to a clients toe nails a week or so ago and really struggled to get the edge to stick because there was no free edge to file to. Has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering if there was a method of doing this? Her nails were very short and the smaller ones more or less none existant.

Hi,
I also posted a similar question last week and it was suggested that i use nail clippers or curved scissors when there was no free edge. I chose to use scissors and although i found it a bit fiddly it did the job once cut i re heated the toe nail and sealed down the top edge with my rubber hoof stick not sure if it seals as good as file but no reports yet of minx coming off or peeling so i will continue this for short nails with no free edge.
If you look down the posts for earlier in the week Fee from cnd posted good advice for this very problem
hope this helps E

:lol::lol: yup! And nails are just fiddley lil critters at the best of times

For nails with no free edge I use my Cuticle nippers to trim the minx as close to the free edge of the nail as possible, and then I use a kanga file to smooth along the edges. I make sure all edges are firmly attached as usual
I have had no problems doing it this way x

Running the risk of being a bit controversial, I sometimes think that it is better to tell the client that her nails are not suitable for certain treatments. Sometimes we try too hard to please our clients but if we need a free edge to make something work well then if they haven't got one what are we supposed to do. Inevitably these are the clients that will tell all their friends and family that the treatment was rubbish when it was their nails that were at fault. :D:D

I do agree with you, however I haven't really found minx to need a free edge,
I used them on my 10 year old daughter recently ( who obviously doesn't do much housework etc ...unfortunately lol)
She is a nail biter, so i put them on to try and kerb the habit... Her first set stayed put perfectly for 1 week then we removed them and put a new design on... again perfect for a week untill we removed them, she now has gel on .
The same night I did hers I did my own nails Reasonable length, not too long but just slightly past my fingertip... Had to take them off the next night as I ruined them.

So in some cases free edge really doesn't matter.
Same with toes I think, The longer they are the more likely to rub against shoes etc...

Obviously a severe nail biter there probably wouldn't be a point !
