How do you get a polished look with gel polish?

How do you get a polished look with gel polish, especially around the cuticles?
How do you clean up around the cuticles with gel polish? I have found that an orangewood stick just doesn't cut it for the most part and have started to use a nylon rounded brush to clean up in that area that works ok.

I was taught to use a gel flat oval brush (I use CND size 6) at my Shellac class. To clean up, especially when doing a French x
