I've just had a client (my second client booked so far) and she has had her nails done with Shellac. She sent me an email pleading with me to help her with her nails - very dry and flaky. She obviously looked after herself very well, well dressed, beautiful makeup etc, but she didn't have the time for her nails she said. So I manicured and Shellaced her. I was really pleased with the results bearing in mind there was no free edge to her nails, so not much to work with. She did say that she wanted them square, but as I told her this would only happen when she had some nail to work with (I did my best). All the way through she was talking about having her nails done for weddings and parties in the future, even talking about the 'next time' she came. As she was leaving I asked if she'd like to make another appointment and she seemed very non-commital and left it open. Now I am thinking was she dissapointed with her nails - service etc, or is she just the type to not be committed to a nail routine.

You have no idea what's going on in her life...
She may be on the verge of a divorce/redundancy/moving house etc.
She might not have had her diary with her, or she may just be plain indecisive.
Don't panic - even some of my regulars don't rebook right away!

I agree with lynne.
I have regular clients, but they never re-book when Im with them-but send an email or text regarding their next appt a few days or a week later.
shifts so wont know their hours in advance etc.
So again, dont worry.

Most of my clients don't book when they leave either. They usually get in touch the week before they want them done. I always gauge their happiness by the tip they leave. It's usually a good indication. HTH.

the only way you will know if a client is happy in my experience is if they leave you a tip and if they come back.
most of the people i have done havent booked in advance they prefer to book a few days before they want them re done,so dont let that dis hearten you its probably more that although they look nice she wants to see how long they last.

Text/call her tomorow when you have a min and say its just a curtisey call to see how her shellac nails are :)

Thanks a lot for your replies. She didn't leave a tip and I couldn't persuade her to buy a bottle of Bio Oil, so she may not like parting with her money:D I will wait and see if she decides to come back in a few weeks. I think the shock of parting with money gets to some people, and she didn't seem to be too committed to keep her nails tip top. Watch this space!

Not everyone wants to buy bits Hun, and most people seem to think if your self employed you count your tips in the price, :suprised: , it dosen't mean she wasn't happy give her a chance to see how long lasting her shellac is and how much her nails grow with it after 14 days,
Have faith in the product to do the job :)
But also its worth rembering not every one dose come back :) so don't take it personally!

Thanks I know you are right, just being my first client I really wanted to make a good impression. Maybe I did, time will tell:D

I wouldn't use tips as a way to guage happiness. I don't know if it's a northern thing but i'm in Leeds and can't remember the last time I had a tip. But my clients do return and most book whenthey want to co
e again a week before or try a day or two before! So I guess that would be a good sign for you but don't forget you will always get the clients who just want them doing for a single special occassion so even if she doesn't rebook don't be disheartened x

I agree about tips, some do some don't that is just the way it is with people. I do think that you are over analysing the situation though! If she was talking about her next appointment and what she would have done in the future then she seems positive but she might just be going to see how her nails last. She should be pleased as we all know that Shellac will last and last. It is difficult for clients to get their heads around these new products they think they will wear like normal polish.

Relax, take a breath and see what the next week or two brings. Don't stress over things beyond your control :D

Most of my clients books for months in advance now because it may be difficult to get the time that suits them if they leave it too long. But when I first started some clients would not make an appointment for the next visit right away, I absolutely agree with geeks below. Clients may be having the treatment as one off, they may not know what they will be up to later in the month, no diary etc.

I would suggest to talk to client throught the appointment and of course at the consultation which is paramount.

Find out if treatment is on off or long term, what would they like to get out of their appointment ( is it to grow their own nails or just a holiday/special occasion treat), suggest their recommended return time, etc.

I like to keep it interesting for clients, so at their first time I talk about the nail itself, why should they wear gloves, why important to use oil and so on.
They know from the first appointment that I know what I am talking about, I build the clients trust and confidence.

I know they are happy, cause they when they leave they have smile on their face and the sparkle in their eyes.

I don't do what they want, I do what's best for them, I explain why I think they should have what I think they should have!

So don't worry, client will be back and she will be happy)

hope you find some of this helpful) ;)

Hey
With some of our treatments which requires removal, such as shellac, we have priced it to include removal, so when clients are paying, we ask them if they would like to book in now for removal and also remind them that removal is included in the price. But some clients just don't book straight away. Try not to be disheartened. There will be plently more clients who will love what you've done.

Thanks for all your comments:D I did go through all the things that I thought she should/shouldn't be doing and she seemed to take in on board. She seemed very positive throughout the whole treatment, then towards the end it seemed to be a bit rushed. I got the impression that she was expecting more than I could offer, i.e. she said she wanted her nails filed square, but like I pointed out she had no nails to file so she would have to wait till the next appointment. Then she could really go to town and have the colour that she didn't think suited short nails. I'm feeling a lot better today and have another client booked in for Shellac and Minx next week:D Thanks again for your support!

I know they are happy, cause they when they leave they have smile on their face and the sparkle in their eyes.
Exactly what I was thinking !
I very very rarely get a tip... Maybe the odd £1 every few months lol..

I do have one lady who I find a very hard person to 'get' She doesn't seem to show any expression of any sort...I like her, but cant read her.
Even my daughter once described her as ' The one who always looks miserable' ( she wasn't describing in a negative way, just the only way she could think lol)

But She comes back again and again and has recommended friends who have came also, I worried for a while about this, but now I just accept that is the person she is.

I realise now you just can't please everyone all of the time.... as long as you are happy with the way you presented YOURself and you know you did a good job, then you have nothing to worry about at all

Just an update for you. I had a lovely email from the lady in question yesterday saying that she was really chuffed with her nails and would be booking another appointment when I come back from my hols next week!:D

I have a lash client that doesn't say a lot before, during or after her appointment. When I did her initial set she just said, "Cool, thanks". I thought she wasn't very happy and I wouldn't see her again. Then she booked her infill. Again she didn't really say very much and just said, "Cool, thanks". I guess some people are just quietly happy.
