Hi

I got my new marbling tool today, and I'm having problems getting the balance right. If I dont put a thick layer of enamel on, when I use the marbling tool it scrapes the enamel away to expose the nail underneath, but when I put it on thicker, I manage successfully to marble the enamel, but the enamel is way too thick to dry.

Am I using it right? Has anyone got any suggestions?

Rather than using enamel 'Chelle, why don't you try using acrylic paints - they dry super fast and a good lick of topcoat over secures the design.
Also it's so easy to get off if you have made a mistake.
Be sure that the paint is slightly runny though, not a thick blob as it comes out of the bottle as all you'll do is just move the blob around with lines through it down to the nail iykwim.

I find light, quick movements are the best.

Ive had the same problem, but my tutors friend suggested this way.

Use airbrush nail art paint its the right consistency,so no need to mess about, put paint on,a good coverage the use another paint from same range, dip tool into it and just swirl around, results are fantastic, I have some pictures of what I have done but they arent loading to my computer yet shall do that tomorrow or saturday, I will put them in my album on here if you want to look.
make sur its really dry before you topcoat though and top coat very gently hth :)

Are you referring to the marbling tool that is also called a dotter?
I prefer to use a brush for marbling. Either a striper, or a shorter one (for details) and lightly pulling that through.

When using a striper, I hold it at the usual angle.
When using a detail brush, I hold it perfectly vertical, and only the barest tip of it touches the polish or paint.

Thats marvellous advice, thanks gals.

I just ordered some acrylic paint today so I will have a play when it arrives.

it's what I do too...

I keep my small beaded marbling tool to "dig" a design onto some non-cured acrylics instead.
and the normal beaded one to do dots with gel...

I find that when marbling I put 2 or 3 small round balls of paint on the nail tip depending on how many colours you want then I just gently (feather touch) move the colours around.
