I just wondered how ill do you need to be before you cancel clients?
I am feeling horrid and have been all weekend ****ey tummy, feeling sick and generally feeling like crap
The problem I have is I am so busy over the next 2 weeks as I am on holiday after that so I have squeezed all my clients in before I go.

I have worked through a sniffle even stuck tissue up my nose to stop it dripping not a nice look but effective:lol:

Just wondered how ill have you been and still worked, do you tell your client and give them the option to change?

Thanks:hug:

Hi Hun,
Sorry to hear you are so poorly.
To be fair to your clients I think you should tell them all how you are, I as a client would take a later appointment after your Hols as I would not want to catch whatever you have, so that gives them the choice.
But if you feel you cannot do the treatments as they would expect I would then cancel them all.
You will be out of pocket, but if you are not well enough then you could make yourself far worse.
Have you checked that you do not have Swine flu? It is possible with the symptons you have.
I hope you are better soon.
Lotsa luv x x x    x x x

You have to tell your clients and give them the option especially at the moment.
I have certain clients who i always tell even if i just have a cold.I have one lady who has a very weak chest through two bouts of pneumonia that nearly killed her. There is no way i risk giving her anything.
Take care of your yourself and your clients health even if it costs you money, first rule in my workbook.
If you really need to work then wear a mask at least it shows consideration.

Aww poor you
I would give your clients the option to change their appointment.
Hope you feel better soon.

Just to avoid confusion I wont be working tomorrow if I am still feeling ill:hug:

I'm really just wondering how ill you would need to be before you would decide to cancel clients?

Personaly i would have to be ill enough to know that I wouldn't be doing my best. Of course clients come first when your runing a business but my clients wouldn't thank me if I didn't give them the service they are used to and it would only cost me more when they come back for repairs because I havn't done a good job.
Look after number 1 aswell Karen

If I was highly infectious then I would cancel out of concern i would spread illness to my clients. Apart from that, I can mind over matter anything!

When i worked in a call centre before doing nails full time i only had to sneeze and i would ring in sick...i even drove to work sometimes thinking of reasons i could come up with to go back home again...and all the time convincing myself i really was too ill to work.

Since starting nails in nov 04 i have cancelled clients only twice...2 days in 5 years.

Its hard when your a one man band and self employed....you cant get someone else to cover you...you don't get paid for being sick and its more hassle than its worth cos you still have to try and squeeze they clients into an already busy week.

What i do now is...ring the first client and explain and give her the choice....then see how i get on...if its really a struggle and i really cant go on the i cancel the rest...but i always give it a go first...sometimes i think it help to work through it if you can..takes your mind of it and makes the day go quicker....then long soak in bath..paracetamol and right to bed.

of course this is only if you can...if you really are ill and even the thought of a free shopping trip doesn't lift your eyebrow then taking care of you is most important....clients will understand, and if they don't then just think of the times they are ill and cancel.

Only you know if you are ill enough to work or not..maybe just try 1 client and see how you feel.

get well soon...

As above, I tend to phone the clients and give them the option, and if I can't get hold of them I go in & tell them when they arrive. In 13 years I've about 2 or 3 days off sick, and only one or two people have ever decided to cancel the appointments, the rest seem to just take the risk!

Self-employed people always have the best sickness records!

I called all my clients I have this week to explain what kind of weekend I had and that I was feeling a bit better today.

All my appointments I have for the end of the week are for a wedding so I didn't give them a call as I couldn't cancel them.

All my others were no problem they all wanted to keep their app one even said "omg no I cant cancel i look like a bearded woman I am coming whatever":lol:

Its amazing how women will not miss out on a treatment for anything:lol::lol:

Glad your feeling a little better...i don't even think swine flu would keep my clients away....in some ways its a little selfish of them considering we have just rung to say we feel ill but in another its good cos we know we are wanted no matter what....and i am sure if the call had of been "i cant work i am ill" instead of "i am ill do you still want to come" they would have understood. x
