Hi all

I have had ill health resulting in surgery and radiotherapy. I think this has affected my nails, which have never been particularly good, but are now even worse, thin, layering etc.

Anyway, on Thursday, just gone, I applied over the counter stick ons as I was going out somewhere very nice at the weekend and my nails were disgusting!

I put them on with care and at the moment they are still going strong. I know I will have to remove them eventually, but before I do remove them, out of interest, how long, in your opinion can "over the counter" nails be left on?

I have trained in tip application but only work in silk enhancements.

I look forward to your opinions on this X

How do you intend to remove them??

If they have served their purpose, I would recommend removing them as soon as possible, especially if your nails are in bad condition anyway. They are likely to become loose and you may end up ripping one off and taking your already fragile nail plate with it!

Lots and lots of solar oil!!!

Personally i wouldn't have these on my nails for more than 24 hours....they are great for a one day/night occasion but not for long time wear.

I always recommend to those interested in stick on nails that even though they can be brought OTC that they be applied by a trained nail tech...to ensure the nail plate is prepped properly and that they fit correctly.

Hi Stoney,

Thanks for quick reply. At the moment they are all still very nice and secure. I will be removing them with acetone and will oil them first to try and prevent too much dehydration from the acetone. Yep like you say lots of oil is required to try and get them strong again, I usually use OPI avoplex.

I wanted another professional opinion because at the moment they still look good and I can't bear the sight of my gross nails!

I have read your thoughts on stick ons while scouring past threads. Oh well back to looking at my yuk nails then. If you think they should come off after 24 hrs (mine have been on for nearly 4 days!) then off they will come.

Maybe they have stayed on so well as I prepped them very carefully and although they were meant to be comfort fit ones, I still customised them a bit with my file.

if you do silk enhancements then why not try silk wrapping your own nails to help them grow and then they would look nice polished aswell xx

Hi Ami

Yep doing my own silk enhancements would have been a good idea, unfortunately I didn't have the the time to blend the tips and apply the silk as it always seems to take longer on myself!

The stick ons are now off and my nails are being lavished with loads of oil, the still look rubbish though, lol.
