Hi guys was just wondering how many hours the average tech spends on doing nails week.

I average about 40 a week, im tired out by the end ov the wk but still love it!

I do 40 in the shop ,mostly back to back appointments and then studying, practicing and perfecting technique on some weekends...
I love it all...............It's not a job its a passion i get payed for..how cool is that lol......

I do about 20ish as I am part time. I work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the salon.

My average is 60-70 hrs per week, but I have recently opened a new salon so work 6 days a week, plus I am always fully booked.

Have just taken on 2 fully qualified cnd techs, and 2 trainees so hopefully this will give me more time for updating my skills, cnd classes and my competition training.

That's what I like to see ... a real professional really gunning for it!! Well done. See what can be acheived when you dedicate yourself ladies and gents??

This is what all the part timers should be aiming for, because in my opinion, nails is not a part-time hobby or business. It is part of a SERVICE industry which in theory means that we should be there for our clients full time to perform our services.

IT IS A FACT THAT Ladies who have to wait to get a repair done (or whatever) because their technician is only part time, will go somewhere else. This is true, and if you are part itme and finding it hard to build up a clientel, part of the reason is because you are part time and your clients are going elsewhere to get full time service.

I am just building my clientelle so only do a few hours a week at the mo. This suits me at the mo as have my 3 yr old daughter to look after. As she goes to nursery more i hope, no i mean will build up more clients to eventually go full time.

I am certainly building up to be the best technician i can possibly be, i intend on doing all my training regularly so as to learn as much as possible. As Ruth said, its not a job, its a way of life!!!!:)

Wow - I'm still a student and I just totalled up my hours at school a week doing nails (Not including breaks) and I got 31 hours!!!! Then I do about 3 sets a week after school or on the weekend and sometimes I throw in a 3 hour weekend class for good measure (or is that as punishment?) So that makes about 40 hours per week! I ticked the 30-40 box though.

What's it going to be like when I am in a salon!!!!????

Maybe I should be catching up on some sleep now

Jadey :)

I work from around 10-20 hours per week which of course depends on bookings..

My first appointment I can offer is 6pm (straight from my main job - that I hate  ) and the latest booking I take is 9.30pm (which is becoming popular for a couple of clients) and then I work from 9am on Saturdays and Sundays ....wish I could say I work more hours, but I know it will come and the fabulous thing about this career is even when I am working at 8.30pm in the evening I don't ever think about what I could or would normally be doing socially as I love doing nails so much :green:

I agree with this statment - but I have bills to pay with no savings so what do you do?

I dearly wish I could jack in my job and wait for the phone to ring but this is not possible - however I get my clients because I am willing to work past 6pm and most of the Nail Salons who are my competition only do one late night are are shut Sundays!

I have just got two new clients who got fed up with a new Franchised Nail Bar who could not get appointments to suit their lifestyles - most of my clients work long hours and can't find the time in their lunchtime to have their nails done in Leeds.....So the fact I can go to their home at 7.30pm (or later) in the evening suits them down to the ground....so their is another side to the coin on being part time (in my neck of the woods that is)....thankfully :green:

I just find that when doing nails the time goes so quickly! I love it when im busy a 12 hour day feels like it over in 5 hours. I've never had this feeling with any other job it's a bit spooky sometimes I keep thinkin sum1's messin wiv my clock!!!!

Hiya ,

I would say around 166 -168 hours per week.......why........i love it when i'm awake i live and dream it and have a full appointment book but when i get home i really l live out the fantasy and i cannot get enough of learning new techniques....................i just lurve it and cannot imagine doing anything else, if there was no nails then i would be dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love doing nails but the beauty side of it is a lot buisier than the nail side, although i wpould like ,more nail clients

Our spa hours are 9am-8pm. I work Tues-Sat, 9-5. That's the perfect schedule for me. I have three little children who go to daycare, and a husband who works very hard, so I need to be done working at 5pm!! I am almost always completely booked, and I have a large clientele. It is absolutely true that if you want to build your clientele, you have to put in more hours. If you are part time, and you find yourself always booked, open up another day, or some more hours to accomodate new people (IF that's your goal). It's not hard to build it, you just have to be there. BUT don't work yourself to death. In this industry techs get burned out easily, and quit prematurely because they get frustrated or weren't willing to put their time into it.

Hi guys,

I had this conversation the other day with my friend. I just didnt realise how many hours i actually work now that i have my own salon. I actually added it up and it came to around 50! Now thats scary!! I have sundays and one day in the week off, so i obviously have very long days! The fact that i knew i was working a lot, but didnt realise just how many hours shows that i must be loving every minute of it! And i have to say that i am fully booked all day every day, with a waiting list almost 2 weeks in advance, so i am pretty happy! ( i think i may have to look around for a nail tech!!)>

im at the 40 hour mark also and in my free time (sunday) its practicing and studying

I work two 11 hour days Back to back with nails,
which I love and still get lots of free time with my son before he goes off to his dads for the weekends..

hi guys
there are never enough hours/days in a week!
my weeks change slightly depending on what teaching i'm doing.
mondays i work in the salon from 9.30- 9.30/10.
tuesdays i teach.
wednesdays i work in the salon 9.30- 9.30/10.
thursdays & fridays i work in the salon 9.30- 5.
saturday (until recently) i work 9.30- 4.30/5.
i've just recently changed my sat. hours to finish at 1pm.

once a month i do a foundation course. that runs on sunday, monday, tuesday. on mondays i leave the academy at 5/ 5.30 & work in the salon till 9.30/10.
i do 4/5 other teaching days per month, & they are usually on tues or weds.

this works quite well until i get a phone call from 1 of the agencies that give me photo shoots to do! then i have to do a juggling job. the only thing i don't change at short notice is my classes.

also there are things like london fashion wk & compititions x 4 or 5 a year.

any hours left over are spent firstly with my 2 children, untill they go to bed. then i'm on here or doing my invoices, or working on my next project i.e organising a photoshoot or holding a staff meeting!

then i get a phone call from the lovely katherine from pro nails, asking me very nicely to do a step by step shoot for the mag! considering the lovely joh nathon comes to the salon to take the photos, it,s as convenient as it can b.

the only other fly in the ointment of course is holidays!
i'm going to ibiza nxt sat with paul & the kids, so that REALLY plays havoc with my schedule!!! (worth every minute thou!)

i reckon if they were to invent another day for every wk, i still wouldn't have time to do everything there is to do!

there is only 1 thing that comes before my passion for our industry...
my family.
i've been invited to take part in the world championships in austria. being held in a beautifull casino on the edge of a lake (u get the picture)
one problem.. it's on 1st sept.
the 1st day of term.
some of you may remember a post i put up a little while ago about the nightmare i was having with getting jema into the school of our choice. well, on the 1st sept, i've got to apply to 2 schools formally to see if jema can b admitted as a casual addmission.
there is no way i cant b there for her, so the world championships will have to wait untill next year!!
liza xx
