Hi, Ive a client who is on anti -depressants , which I believe are stopping her keeping her extensions on.If I see her every 3 weeks shes generally lost all of them ,every two weeks and its usually about four.

Im just concerned as much as she doesnt mind paying for a new set , but am I doing damage to her natural nail keep taking off the shine continuously, and do you think I should actually put a stop to her having a new set anymore??? Ive also a nail biter in the same situation , having a new set every two weeks , not due to anti depressents , but to chewing them off when shes stressed....:-( .

What you think, I love both of these clients but dont want to make it a day with them.

Well....thats um a hard call. I suspect that client #1 you need to find out what meds she is on cos some of the antidepressants do mess up your body chemistry to the point where its difficult to have enhancements. The newer meds don't seem to be as much a problem as the older ones, but if you don't know what she is on, hard call. Client #2 is absolutely nervous energy issues and is picking them off, at which point you should be able to tell if that is, in fact the case.

That being said, you haven't said if Client #1's natural nails are of a decent length/shape otherwise. Also, with Client #2, if she is a nailbiter and she likes em long thats an issue.

With both of these clients, I would do their nails, keep them SHORT, talk to them about the damage caused by picking.

Advise each of them that you can do the next set, that they will be shorter and that you want them to come in weekly until their nails have grown out so you can see if perhaps, with client #1 it is a physiological thing (ie meds) and with Client #2, tell her that with weekly visits, you can see what the problem is that the nails keep popping off. Send them both off with solar oil or equivalent and strict instructions for daily use. Gloves if hands in water a lot, etc etc. They are jewels not tools.

Technically speaking on the next set, I wouldn't remove shine on Client #1. I wouldn't touch the nailplate with anything less than a 1200 grit to be honest. I would use acetone to get any remaining product, then I would use 1200 grit to make sure there is no product left, and then I would dehydrate and double prime. I despise primer, mind. If your system does not have primer, I would double dehydrate. Do all ten, then do each finger as you go, and make sure you give the dehydrator time to fully do its job.

With client number two, you could do the same, actually.

I would give them each another set but with the proviso they come in WEEKLY for a while to see what is going on so you can nip any problems in the bud. Also, with nailbiters, once they really get to see the nails grow they get so excited and need the attention to help them overcome it.

Good Luck

Nancy

p.s. I hope this made sense. If it didn't PM me OK?

Had a similar client that bit the nails off and every week she came back to me for a new set. Her nails were already badly damaged from a bad nail tech but I did them anyway. Told her the damage she was causing and she didnt listen. She kept coming back week in, week out. Beause she bit them off she was constantly weakening the nail plate.

She realised I was a great nail tech as she became aware of how her other tech had damaged her badly bitten nails so I turned round and told her that if she bit this set off then I would not do her nails again. (she was spending £150 a week with me). She was shocked, but I put it to her that a) I would not be insured if she got an infection and b) whats she going to look like when her nail plate actually falls off and will never grow back ~ she won't be able to stick a fakey to the skin will she!

It worked - she stopped biting them off and remained a loyal client. Probably because she realised I wasn't an A Licker!

With regards the anti biotics this is individual and would take it on a case by case basis. Are her nails very thin & flaky? are the extensions causing damage to the nail plate from coming off? You only do a light gentle file on the nail surface so you are not thinning then so much as just removing the shine. Its the lifting of the nail from the nail plate you need to be aware of.

Thanks for your replies geeks, I have spoken to the nail biter about seeing me on a weekly basis, but she says she wouldnt be able to afford it, and with her hettic life style finding the time would be hard too,to be honest shes annoyed me , when I went to her the first time shed kept her nails on after two weeks, I was so chuffed with her I came on here and blogged it , so it provs she can do it.:irked:

TBH Im wondering wether she ll actually be a regular much longer as she did say from the start she may only keep having her nails done up untill a wedding she was going to in September ( this weekend ),so Iwouldnt be surprised if she chews them off again she may decide not to have another set done again..dont know could be wrong, but her natural nail dont actually look too damaged at the moment, but saying that shes proby only chewed off two sets so far  But I will speak to her if she keeps her appointment about the damage etc next time, then maybe she can make a desission.

The other client I rescued from an NNS salon, shes never been a great one for keeping her nails on, thOught it was down to damaged nails , then she was heavy handed as she always said she caught them on this and that, then one day the conversation was going and she said about anti -depressents ,so now Im putting in down to this. Her nails are thin and you can see lines of damage,Im just worried too much damage is going on and am I just bangin my head against a brick wall .

They both follow after care, or so they both tell me.;-)
