Hi there,

I have been in my current position for 10 months.I do not have a written contract of employment. I have just been offered a job in a 5 star spa.The spa want me to commence training on the 7th May.

I really need some sound advice on this.

x

one week if you have no contract. thats what i did anyway. or speak to citezens advice. x

I always use the standard two weeks. Even without a contract, it's the best way to leave employment...on good terms. Just remember, you always meet the same people on the way up as you do coming back down, so give them a reason to remember you in a positive light. xx

One week is the standard. Be aware they may ask you to leave with immediate effect, but they are due to pay you for the weeks notice. x

No contract specifying the terms of notice taken together with the fact you have been with this employer for less than a year means...well its up to you really.

Do whats fair and right for both you and your employer...a good mid ground is to give notice relevant to your payment cycle...I.E. if your paid weekly then give a week and so on.

Its better to try and work notice periods out together between employee and employer...

Talk to each other and find what suits you both...do onto others what ....kind of thing

Good luck either way

Cheers Geeks,
In all honesty I am a bit terrified of giving in my notice. My boss is in the process of selling the business, handover is imminent and by leaving I will mess things up for her...arrrgh.

You need to do what is right for you.

:) xx

I left my old job. I had no contract and gave a weeks notice before starting my new job which I love. You have been given a good opportunity go for it x

One weeks notice is the norm with no contract of employment. You have been given a very good opportunity with the spa and hopefully you are on good enough terms with your present employer that he/she will understand and be pleased for you. You still have plenty of time so talk to your employer asap and hopefully you can come to some agreement that benefits you all.

Thank you Geeks, I realise that I need to think about myself in this situation. I have been given a great opportunity and will definately go for it.
xx
