About as far South as you can get!
Hi guys :)

As some may know, I'm starting my CND Foundation course on bank holiday Monday :green:

I have a few books on nail anatomy etc and have been reading through them, will this do me any good or are they really for reference once you've qualified?

I want to do as much prep work as I possibly can, is there anything else I could be doing?

Thanks peeps :)

xx

Get yourself a nice long line of models for practising on and plenty of sleep, the course is very intense and after your first day the only thing on your mind will be on is nails nails and more nails

Buy 'nailclass' by geeg!! It will be a vital tool when you start!!

Good luck hun let us know how you get on!!

A good thing to remember too is that patience is a virtue! Practice practice practice!!:green:

:green: I know it's going to be intense! I was just reading through my booking letter (again :)) I've been carrying it around with me and sneaking looks at it whenever I can, lol!

I will get some models, there are a few I know who would love to have me practise on them. I have one inparticular who will be with me on the last 3 days of the course, bless her.

I don't have Geeg's book - it's the only one I don't have but I can ring S2 on Monday can't I and order one?

I'm reading Doug Schoons Nail Structure & Product Chemistry at the moment, it's a mine of info.

Also, I was wondering if I will be allowed to wear my contact lenses on the course, it's with Denise Holland in West Sussex.

Thanks girls I'm really looking forward to it!

Thanks Lee, only I wear them constantly! I do have a pair of glasses that if push comes to shove I could wear, but they're about 3 years out of date on my prescription!

Lol! Yeah, wouldn't be much good if I can't see where I'm filing!

Anyone else any advice on what I can do, or should I just read, read and read some more :)?

I just can't wait to get started!!!!!!

Am sure it doesnt matter so long as you wear Iwear (god please tell me it IS called Iwear and I have not just made that up!! LOL!!) Iwear will protect the eyes and whatevers in them?

Not sure Toni, im not a lense wearer, I just recall her saying something about wearing glasses instead of lenses .....

Hopefully some other geeks will have an answer x

If you have booked a foundation course then I would say leave the 'practical' practising until you have started and been taught all the correct techniques etc....keep reading doug schoons book as the more you learn from that book then you are bound to be more prepared for the course in general. (that book is amazing and i have definately learnt alot from it).
As far as the contacts go...you should ring them or perhaps pm geeg to clarify for sure...but id be surprised if they didnt at least recommend you not wearing them....lets face it...do you really want vapours and fine filing dust sitting on the surface of your eyes??? I know i wouldnt...it would probably be in your best interests to look into wearing glasses permanantly tbh.

Saying that..Im not sure about the eye wear tho...never heard of them...but I would have thought they would have to be sealed round the edges (like goggles) for them to be effective...whether they are like that or not i dont know.

The vapours from the monomer can absorb into soft contact lenses and cause permanent damage to your eyes. I-wear safety glasses are fab but wont prevent vapours getting to your eyes I believe.

Glasses are the best option tbh.

hth's

iwear are the really thin plastic eye protectors arnt they.....the ones with the detatchable frames.
I think vetty is right...i dont think they offer much protection from the vapours...just the dust tbh.
I would get an appt down the optitions if i were you......you really want to be able to see on your course, lol!
By the way .....i didnt do any prep before my foundation, i thought it best to go in like a blank canvas.....then i would learn everything the right way and not get too baffled. A bit of reading up wouldnt do any harm. You sound like you have got some good books....you will be fine!
You will love the course....its great!

Hmmm. Thanks for the input about my lenses guys. I 'see' what you mean about the vapours :)

I have looked into getting new glasses made up but they're going to be an extra £150 and I just can't afford that on top of my CND course 2nd part fee as I just got made redundant too

I think what I can do is perhaps wear my lenses up there and back so I don't crash  and change into my glasses (like Superman, lol!) when I get there. They won't recognise me, lol!

Thanks again for all your replies

xx
